Big oil leak

Car is a diesel. There’s a big oil leak underneath the car. Offside front.

Any suggestions? Maybe worth mentioning, before this happened today, the ac compressor belt snapped yesterday. No idea if it’s a coincidence or not

is it an oil leak or fluid from the washer bottle?

Do you have an under tray fitted?

Oil, dip stick is bone dry.

Yes I have an under tray; leak seems to potentially be coming from the pulley area

PCV filter blocked, accompanied by a leaking crankshaft oil seal perhaps?

Difficult to say without eyes on the job, but if the PCV filter is blocked and the crankcase pressurised, then that's where I would be looking first ;)

I've seen a few reports that the belt can get entangled when it snaps and takes the crank pulley oil seal with it :(

Yep I'd check that first.

Mechanic came by today, this is exactly what happened. the belt ate away the seal.

He recommends me to change the timing belt aswell if i'm going to replace the seal. reason being that oil has gone everywhere so if there's oil on the belt it could slip and break the engine and also due to the fact that the car has 108.000 miles.

edit: The car has a chain and as for as I know, they're bulletproof?

What do u guys recommend?

The diesel engine has a timing chain, not a belt, if your mechanic thinks it has a timing belt I would look for someone who knows what they are doing to carry out repairs.

Sounds like there is some 'belt' confusion going on. Did the mechanic mean change the AC and AUX belts?

No confusion , mechanic accidently thought that the car had a belt instead of chain at first. We don’t have many rovers over here.

I have decided to just change the seal. thank u everyone for your help.
