Top digital display knackered.

Old lurker/new poster with presumably an old question.

My instruments work, the warning lights illuminate, the lower mileage etc display works, but the top display appears to have missing horizontal lines to the point where it is unreadable.
There's a gazillion of these for sale on ebay, but
1; are they likely to be as screwed as the one I'm taking out?
2; my man with the spanners thinks the cluster may be coded to the car and a different example simply won't work?

Your advice will be welcomed.

Coded but what guarantee those E-Bay ones.---

Can't simply swap instrument packs without coding, but https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=260807

I think you can plug a new cluster in to check the lines are ok but the cars data will not be transferred across to the "new" cluster without t4.

Rick-sta I think was doing new displays.

Looks like the future lies in the post with some de-lining.

Many thanks everyone, have a quick pic of my new, old motor.

as above you can't simply swap instrument clusters as they are coded to the car. Although the replacement instrument cluster would work, the correct mileage won't show and you'll also get an ERR message on the bottom screen due to a vin mismatch. If you want to swap the instrument cluster you have to swap the eeprom chip over from the old instrument cluster to the new one, or have the replacement cluster virginised and then programmed to your car with a t4.

In regards to picking up a replacement cluster from a scrappy, chances are the replacement cluster will have lines on it, but you can get lucky and find one now and again with a good screen.

Replacement brand new LCD screens aren't available anymore unfortunately, I've tried many suppliers and can't get hold of a single one. I do still offer the deline repair service though. This generally works best if you have up to around 10 individual lines, the more lines you have the more likely it is that some time may reappear some time after the repair or worst case it may not be fully repairable if it is very heavily lined. Success rate is around every 6/7 in 10 I do.

I do have some instrument clusters on the shelf with good screens if in the worst case yours wasn't fully repairable and would require a replacement cluster.

Many thanks Rick,

Could you pm me a postal address, I can't seem to find it on your facebook page.
I'll post my cluster down to you in the next week or so.
I have to drive it a bit first though, and it's currently having a cam belt fitted.

Mine was that badly lined that I removed the top screen with the intention of fixing it in the future ,however, when it went for it's MOT last year was told it's a fail as there is no telltale light to indicate the fog light is on so I now have to buy a dash light to wire into the fog light circuit for it's next MOT.

I've a few low line IPK kicking about which would be easier ;)
