starting my rover 75 tourer.
 

My Rover 75 tourer with 2L. diesel will not start if its below freezing temperature. Does anybody know of the cause and remedy.?

When you say will not start ? is it not cranking over, any light flickering when trying to start it, or is it completely dead.

How old is the battery and is it fully charged?

Diagnosis impossible without more information from you Victor.--:shrug::shrug::shrug:

Could be many things.

Many thanks for the quick replies. The dashboard incl. the glow plugs does light up, the battery is fully charged and the engine does turn over many times but does not fire, it seems that the fuel does not reach the engine. I hope this opens some reasons for this pain in the brain. She was registered in 2003 and has 213000 on the clock. Regards.

How much fuel have you in the tank?

Everyone on here will tell you that these diesels don't require glowplugs to start in freezing conditions unless well below zero, but I had one with the same symptoms you have, and with a new glow plug relay it worked fine.

Now it may well have been that it had underlying fuel issues, but with the new glow plug relay it always started on the button, and I had no other issues for the next couple of years of ownership.

Have you checked the plenums? Soggy diesel ecu can cause this

Have you tried a sniff of easy start ? If it starts and runs straightaway then it could be The old problem of Injector Leak back, Or the seals on the Regulator on the rear of the HPFP.:shrug:

How much fuel in the tank ???

If it's full it could be a cam or crank sensor.

If the fuel level is less than 1/4 it could be a fuel pump. ( There's one in the tank and another under the bonnet.

Don't keep turning the engine over if it doesn't fire up quite quickly. All you will do is flatten the battery. It won't cure itself, you have to find the fault.
