V6 alternator charging volts

When driving the voltages are between 13,9-14,3 on econ, but with air con on, it is 13,8-14,0.

In idle, like in traffic lights, voltage drops 11,2-12,4 with air con on.

New alternator time?

Voltages do not seem unreasonable to me. Output voltage depends upon state of charge of battery and the loads being applied at the time. At idle will be the lowest output anyway.

That's not good. The battery won't be being charged.

I think so, yes.

What do you think Colvert?

I remember talking to Terry Shaw about V6 alternators and how many he'd ever changed, anyone want to volunteer a guess ??

I would check the battery terminals are tight first of all ;)

Can’t say how many has Terry fitted but I’ve fitted absolutely.... none over the years

I've never been asked for one either, but that voltage while at idle is quite low.

That said, with the amount of load placed on the electrical system by the large radiator fan running continuously with the A/C and the internal blower system (along with everything else) it's possible the alternator just can't keep up with demand at the relatively low rotational speed of running at idle.

I would not worry. The charging sounds fine.
I have replaced an alternator on one 75 however. Didn't charge at all and got stinking hot.
