Did a silly thing.
Agreed with a dealer in Leicester to buy a car on Tuesday. Got it insured this morning and told him I'd see him Tuesday lunch as agreed. He sent back that he'd sold the car saying a deposit should have been left. Couldn't do this 'cos the name didn't match the bank details and my bank wouldn't authorise it, but he said ok.
Fortunately, LV will refund me the full £236 used to insure the car, and I've spotted another car (private seller this time) |

It's sad really, I'm just reminded that these days a 'gentlemens agreement' doesn't exist.

So many dodgy dealers about, he may not have been a gentleman!

Presumably he was putting through a cardholder not present transaction which was rejected by his acquirer. All it required him to do was phone Heddy to check whether he'd got the card details right. I would've thought that business can't be that plentiful that you let a sale fall through just because you might have transposed a number or something.

The dealers name and bank details didn't match. It sound like you were about to be conned.---

Scammer. Tried to get away without declaring it to HM. Wanted to pocket the VAT as well as the money for the car. Seems he did you a good turn. Glad you got the insurance money returned. You will now find a better car.
