Trigger wire for back up camera.
Hi Guys I am in the process of fitting a reversing camera to my E46 media unit.
With the set came a number of looms, one of the looms is marked Video and camera. This loom has a number of cables, one cable is marked Back up Cam,and the other a much smaller and thinner wire, blanked off, is marked reverse. My interface cable merges with two cables from camera , this terminates to a male plug which will connect directly into cable on loom provided, marked "back up cam." As I understand it the small red wire, separate from my interface cable, marked reverse is the video trigger wire for the video, does it have to be connected? If so, to where please? |
+12 V from reverse switch, ie the feed to reversing lamps. Only powered when reverse engaged.

This provides power when reverse engaged, why would I require another 12v feed? Or would it be required, as in some vehicles, BMW's in particular, where there is insufficient power at reverse terminals so they would perhaps require trigger cable to provide necessary 12v or fit a relay??? |
What you have done is powered the camera but the head unit needs to know - be triggered - to switch to the reversing camera. As has been said you need to take a feed from the revering circuit to the trigger wire so when you select reverse it switches to the reversing camera.
