Service interval out of sync

At some point, possibly when a T4 had been attached, my service intervals swapped. I’ll try and explain what I mean… as you know, inspections alternate with oil services – but during a service maybe a year ago, the mileage was reset to 15000 as normal… but it stayed on Oil Service rather than flipping to Inspection.

So now it’s the wrong way round – when SO is due, it says “Inspection”, and vice versa. Any Brians out there have any idea what has happened, and how to change it back maybe? I tried resetting it myself using one of those cheap gizmos I have lying around, and the mileage goes back to 15k OK, but it stays on Inspection or whatever...

I reckon the last reset must have been done wrong, or was repeated 'just to make sure'. As I recall, the display will turn over through the servicing schedules if the reset is repeated before turning off the ignition. In effect, a double reset done consecutively will revert back to the same schedule as before, whether that's Oil Service or Inspection. Not that many owners take much notice these days and it's only relevant for cars doing 15K miles or more per year. Otherwise it's of little use as a servicing reminder. You could try doing it yourself using the gizmo or a paperclip. The important thing to remember is not to turn off the ignition unless you're sure what will pop on next. I believe if you turn off the ignition, you can't have another go for 1,000 miles.

Oh – errmmm… so I should service it every year even if it’s only done 10,000…? {looks embarrassed}

Actually, till a year or so ago, I’d have done more than 15k a year anyway, so I wouldn't even have thought about that, but I’ll bear it in mind now I’m driving the TF half the time too. So… are you saying, to swap it back, I should reset it twice with the ignition on? Or did I misunderstand… probably

Yes, that's the MGR schedule, every 15K miles or annually which ever comes first.

That's my recollection of how it works. Once ignition is turned off, the resetting can't be restarted until 1k miles is recorded. All the details are in the forum archives. Worth a shot anyway.
