instrument cluster changing

Im looking to change the instrument cluster for one that has a fulling working IPK screen as mine has so many lines you cant read anything.
Im sure this wont be a straight swap over and that I will have to use TOAF somehow to change the mileage to correct figure (Currently 91000).
Will TOAF do this or will it need more doing to get it set right.
Many Thanks

The Instrument Pack acts as a Gateway to all the Bus systems of the car and so needs to be coded to the vehicle in order for it to recognise and talk to all the ECUs.

You have to either obtain a brand new uncoded Instrument Pack or 'virginise' an existing one from a donor car before you can then transfer the code of the existing one on to the substitute.

I'm not sure how easy a job that would be using TOAF, but I know a man who would know, Rick-sta specialises in IPKs and the de-lining there of on the faulty screens.

It may be simpler to just replace the screen on your existing IPK which Rick does offer as a service when he has stock. I myself have just come back from his today with two new line free message centre displays on my existing instrument packs. I'll post pictures in a separate thread :smilie_re: Here

But before embarking on a TOAF session with a used IPK, I'd definitely recommend having a discussion with Rick-sta first to see what's involved.

Sadly it's not as easy as just using toaf. The mileage and vin number are locked in the cluster once programmed.
You will need your new cluster resetting to 'as new' before you can rewrite it.
Would second the suggestion of contacting Rick.

Have you a cluster with a fully working ipk screen? You may be better off if you are using a 2nd hand screen to contact Rick-Sta as I think he can supply and fit brand new IPK screens

Jamie Welch in the traders shop on here can also Virginise IPKs he did one for me when I switched up to a highline IPK you need a T4 to do it properly.

Another vote for contacting Rick, otherwise with my own IPK currently in his hands I'd be a hypocrite and I'm a darn sight further away.

But there is another solution, although not ideal but while you can't re-programme the IPK with Toaf, you can change the VIN / mileage in your LSM (light switch module) to match that of your line-free IPK and then you won't get any "err" message.

There is also the option of swopping the special chip that holds the car's details, Rick or Jamie can advise more

I think from looking at another thread he may not have any new IPK's until 2021.
