Any ex services?

Can anything be done about this?

I find it disgusting quite frankly.

mmm I wonder what the legal position is. Due to time who now owns the watch?
It seems very ruthless and expensive. I can understand the schoolboy keeping it but feel at some point it should have been returned to the family

Surely it should be sent to the RAF to try and find out who the original owner was and then offered to their family and/or placed in a RAF museum. Free of charge, or course.

But I'm sure someone will pay up for bragging rights.

Greed/vanity is such a horrible thing.

Knowing the circumstances of how the watch came to be on the ground, is there much bragging rights?

Knowing the history, and with no mention of 'the family/estate, declining its return' it could be considered as stolen (as it is read). If this is the case, the seller could.be liable.to handling charges (as they are declaring the story).

Perhaps there is a time limitation on any possible.charge or investigation. I wonder if 50 years passing is significant?

Perhaps it is/was considered to be treasure, in the same.vein as metal.detectorist finds can be. It is valuable, unknown ownership, and albeit limited, but have historical consideration. So perhaps the coroner should be involved?

Ultimately, it does seem a bit crass, especially the 10% donation to raf causes.....

You could report it to either police or ebay for consideration.

I reckon so.

It'll be the ownership of something which is exceptionally rare or even unique that'll attract some folks.

Sadly, the grizzly details may well make it even more attractive. People buy paintings which are known to be stolen so they can't let it be known that they have them. But they still buy them in the first place.

But who knows? I'd like to think I'm very wide of the mark but time will tell.

I would be a whole lot happier if the ebay sale was an auction and all the proceeds were going to the RAF benevolent fund.
