EWS replacement

Dear All
  • A question about keys. My car only came with 1 key and I'm wondering if I purchased (cheaper than new key) one of the used "ECU kits" which comes with ECU, EWS, RF receiver and importantly 2 keys and swapped them with mine, would the keys and car work?
  • Do I need to swap all parts or just EWS?
  • Would I have to add the keys using toaf/T4 to get the remote locking to work.
  • Would it need any other programming?
Thanks

It would work, but it's a bodge and other items such as airbags might not work as expected, if it came from a saloon or tourer (delete as appropriate) door locks will be affected and definitely airbags.

As an alternative you could buy a key from HERE and have a transponder programmed to suit your original EWS.

You can then use TOAF to code a key remote, job done and no messing around with configuration mismatches.

That is the way to do it ;)

Or you could get a replacement key from one of the traders on here that do keys a lot cheaper and less hassle than fitting an ECU set which can cause problems if it's from a car with different configuration ;)

Key from a trader is the best option but unless he fancies a l o n g day trip it would need to be by post, only trader near him is Trikey and as far as I know Andy doesn't have the equipment for keys.

Russ, the BigRuss's Replacement Key Prices link in your signature doesn't get you anywhere, just gets you the message "Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator"

I can also do keys if the BCU / EWS is sent in the post :). Only thing I can't do is cut the blade.
