Complete sill replacement.
Hi all,
Just been trying to find a post I read last week about sill replacement. Remember seeing a picture of the back end and the jacking point being cut out and replaced, something I need to address in the near future. Reading through the thread there was a reply from a member stating they wished 'there was a complete sill replacement available'. Have come across the following; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-75-...e61q#vi-ilComp Obviously I have not seen these at this point, and not able to comment on the quality, but having had dealings with things Polish, I would hazard a guess that these would be ok. Have an 'old skool' mechanic who now looks after the Zed and is more than competent in doing the job. Am tempted to order a pair, rather than just cut out and repair the back section. Hope this may be of use to someone else out here. Regards, Dave. :} |
The link isn't working for me but I presume these are the galvanised sill panels? If so I wouldn't recommend anyone welding them.

Just reset the link, should work now!!

Seem to be the same Polish ones we've seen before, and while perhaps a starting point these panels still require a lot of metal bashing before being put to use. What you think is the flat underside is not at all flat - have a look at these panels from a craftsman https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=300238
And if indeed they are the same galvanised panels, in my opinion they are more trouble than they're worth: cough, cough. Regards |
I seem to remember someone trying to fit them and there’s not a recess for the chrome/coloured strip so will involve a massive amount of work to get them to fit properly

You can buy the whole side of the car (sills and door frames etc. ) from Rimmers for about £120. Expensive way to get a genuine sill but an option perhaps?

However fitting to the body - I am thinking cutting along the line of holes where the chrome trim strip is. That way the weld will for most of the length be hidden. Any thoughts? Also need a front jacking point, so if anyone has a breaker where the jacking point and steel around it is sound, can it be cut from the shell before it goes scrap? Please get in touch. |
Unless the rust has worked its way that high I would suggest don't - remove the minimum of original sill to ensure a rust-free repair. Any good repair should be nigh-on invisible and the further down the less obvious.
