Nissan Sunderland

The BBC reports that Nissan have confirmed it will continue to make cars at the Sunderland plant and in fact, thanks to the Christmas Eve Trade Agreement - it will set up a battery plant for its EV’s near to the Sunderland plant.

Currently all its EV batteries are manufactured in Japan and shipped over.

So, another bit of good news!

Excellent news, wearside would be hit very hard if Nissan up and left.

That's got to be great news for the community, and encouraging to others that may see an increase in the local availability for future production.

That's great news for the north east, Britishvolt & Siemens are building a "gigafactory" up there on the former site of Blyth power station.

The UK really needs more especially in the midlands to not be dependent on EU supplies, There are many ev battery factories built/under construction across the EU already, VW's chairman Deiss wants 40 gigafactories across Europe before 2035 just to cope with demand.

Please stay on the subject, no wandering off into a political debate on other matters please. And no playground banter.

Britishvolt :duh:

If that happens it will be a miracle given that the background of the firm's former CEO Lars Carlstrom, the company will be forever tainted as a result.

Siemens have a fairly poor reputation in this neck of the woods too, but I would be surprised if even they would want to get into bed with a spurious startup with no capital, it's not quite the same as Tesla and Panasonic is it?

In regards to Nissan, I'll wait until the line of import into the EU from Japan is established until hanging out the bunting for the people employed at the Washington plant.

Siemens do indeed have a pretty tainted history, here in the North East, at Wynyard, they opened up a factory to great fanfare, only to abandon the site within a couple of years.

There are a few dubious people in these start up companies from what I've read, I just hope it comes to fruition as all cars from 2030 or sooner will need batteries .https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/man...eguard-factory

GM nearly got burnt by Nikola whose CEO Trevor Milton duped investors with the Nikola hydrogen truck, They wanted to see a working model & they shot a "motion" video it moving only they had the truck roll down a steep hill under gravity

Stellantis are making a decision in the next couple of weeks on the Vauxhall plant in Ellesmere Port, I hope it's gets a good outcome like Nissan.

I would certainly consider an EV when they are on price parity with an ICE vehicle.
