steering wheel controls
Hi
Had exactly the same problem on mine. Turned out to be the rotary coupler in the steering wheel. There's a lot of advice re changing it on the forum. Cheers |
So have I understood this right - the rotary coupler can stop the SWC working, but still enable cruise and horn to work normally (which is my situation too)? Doesn't sound likely, but I'm happy to be corrected if it's definitely the case.
|
If it is not a problem with the rotary coupler, if the factory fitted stereo has been replaced with another using an adapter lead, that lead may not carry the steering wheel control cables (many don't).
In the case of the ZT fitted with a Kenwood unit, the infra-red transmitter may be misaligned and not visible to the unit. |
First I would pop the ICE out and check connectors, then pop off the steering wheel and check the connectors, and do a continuity check.

Before pulling anything to bits what head unit is fitted, OEM or replacement. If it is a replacement then raykay's post may well be the answer.

Thanks for the replies. My car is a ZT with original Kenwood unit. I've checked the infra red eye positoning very carefully and it's definitely where it should be. Just doesn't do anything, so looks as if I need to get it out and check all connections behind.

Take it you have a phone with a camera. Point the camera at the infra red transmitter and play with the steering wheel buttons, the camera will pick up the infra red flashes and you'll see them on the phone screen.
