75 CDTi Tourer exhaust query

My 2003 75 Tourer is smoking badly from the back box and requires a replacement exhaust

I have tried local scrap yards here in SPAIN, but no luck so far :-(

Before I source the part from the UK, are there any acceptable alternatives which would fit the Rover??

My 'local' Rover Mechanic has told me he is happy to cut/join the pipe anyway, so some minor modification is obviously expected.

I have a reliable guy with a Van who can transport the part from UK to Spain for me, so happy to receive advice/guidance on where to buy in UK.

Gracias!

Buenas dias ;-)

I replaced my Rover's rear exhaust silencer with one of these from eBay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Endschall...EAAOSwfphaaF0x

This seller was listing them in UK Pounds in an English listing but doesn't seem to be doing so any more. Certainly, the seller was happy to ship to from Germany to the UK so maybe they'd be happy to ship to sunny Spain, too.

The part seems to be of good quality (it's still going strong, three years later) but I think it needed a little adjustment by the exhaust fitter to get it to fit. It's not too noisy, which I know is a criticism of others you can buy.

Good luck!

Hola Tourist - que tal?

Thanks for the link - looks like they are still offering the part, but won't post to Spain (and many other countries...), which isn't a problem.

I would be interested to know what 'adjustment' was required to make this part fit the Rover, as they claim it is ONLY for this car!!??

My local mechanic is prepared to cut/join the rear section as required - and indeed, that's all I want, but this looks like the whole exhaust from front to back!

I have seen comments regarding the increase in noise levels for some other after market exhausts, so guess it's a question of tolerance....

Delivery time seems a bit protracted - what was your experience?

Thanks

Hi again - it's difficult to remember the details as it was back in 2016, however I think I received the rear silencer and also an extra length of exhaust pipe, with a flexible coupling and clips.

I believe that the exhaust fitter had to cut the section of pipe down to get everything to fit properly - it was one of the fast-fit type exhaust and tyre centres so the level of expertise was pretty low.

OK - that sounds entirely manageable!

Adios y gracias

Some years ago, there used to be an Englishman (Graham, I believe), who would make you an exhaust - last I heard he was working out of a hand car wash place not far from Mercadona on Avenida Las Palmeras, Benalmadena Costa (he was in Fuengirola before that).

Don't know if he's still around, probably not, but he did an exhaust for me on one of my Soarers some ten years ago...it's a long shot, but ask around.

Btw, Rimmers are doing back boxes on offer just now, but don't know if they send to sunny Spain!

Apologies Pueblo Boy - only just logged back in and saw your post!

We are located inland, so the Coast is 'alien territory' to us and full of ex-pat Brits :-(

I will check out the Rimmer site, in case they still have the offer ...

Gracias y Adios!

Hi Pueblo Boy - I checked out Rimmers 'special offer' on the back Box exhaust and unfortunately, it applies to the Rover 200/400 Models ONLY!

The Rover 75 Tourer part, costs an eye-watering £150 plus Postage :-(

Been looking at the 'Eastern Europe' offerings, of which there are several, mostly around the 50-60 Euro mark - I appreciate you get what you pay for, but on a 16 year old car, with serious mileeage, why not?????

Any thoughts people?

Do you mean literally smoking or just leaking?
A smoky diesel won't be fixed by replacing the exhaust box. It's a combustion problem, so maybe intercooler seals, etc. etc.

Garage says it's just a leaky box - but it has done a few miles, who knows, time will tell..... :-(
