Yes I have, fit and forget :D

Haven't heard or read any negatives either.

I fitted one to mine about 8 years ago.
When I swapped cars I also swapped the "fit and forget" breather as well.
When I took it out the insides were as clean as the day I first put it in.
What you have to remember is that BMW added these to there cars as an upgrade to just having the filter itself.

Hi to all
so this upgrade stops the oil from circulating to the inlet manifold

They certainly aren't fit and forget ;)

BMW service schedule states that the depression valve in the housing still needs to be checked for correct operation every 40,000 IIRC ;)

If the valve sticks it will cause pressure to build up just the same as if the filter was blocked.

I haven't had a problem in 8 years

As Russ says, there are two parts to this breather, most people just swap the bit that that the eBay link takes you to. I think this is a mistake, the other housing contains a rubber valve system that i figured could probably need replacing after 100k. Russ points out it should be 40k.

I changed all the lot on mine.

Personally I like to stick to the filter type it will catch any debris /muck, but if you do go down the road of the vortex type then change it all link below.

I agree, where does the debris and muck go without the filter to catch it?
It can only gunge up or cause an issue else where.

Rover doesn't mention it in there service but if you change it every year you can't go wrong.
