Slave cylinder
 

I desperately need some help. I own a 2003 diesel 75 cdti. I am based in Spain. Yesterday my clutch went, again.
The garage diagnosed a faulty slave cylinder. It turned out to be correct.
The new clutch assembly going in will be the third in 18 months. I have driven only 8,000 km in that period.The car has less than 90,000miles on the clock.
The clutch is being replaced again here in Spain.
I do not overload the car, mr & mrs only. No tow bar.
Should the slave cylinder be so free floating?
Should the slave cylinder be located firmly?
In all the replacements, it has been due to slave cylinder going and taking the plate out as a result.
I'm getting disillusioned with my car due to these problems.
Please, please help me.

Crud can go from the master to the slave and destroy the slave in very short time. You may well be eating slave cylinders because the master is breaking down and sending crud down the line and/or maybe the garage did standard bleed sending crud into the new slave?


Reverse bleed it till the fluid comes out clear from the master cylinder reservoir and dont delay and cerrtaily look at changing the master cylinder to. Im sure a forum expert will be along to confirm or suggest a better option but i dont think there is one? At the least get on your kneas to inspect the master cylinder for wear and leaks it will clue you in but a decent garage ought to mention you would have thought lol.

The same garage did all the repairs. One set was from UK supplier. Rimmer bros. 2nd one from Spanish supplier. 3rd one coming from another spanish supplier. I think I'll point out the dirty fluid option before they replace and I get the same in a few weeks.
Master cylinder was replaced on first change.

Fit a new slave guide tube, the slave should be fixed in position, it shouldn't 'float'

Unfortunately it seems there's no infallible option out there these days, but we have far fewer issues with these than with the others we've tried. :)

As previously mentioned, I think the main problem is the garage you are using. If they do not know the Rover car then that is the root cause.. It does need to be fitted properly. Any distortion to the tube the slave moves on will cause future problems.
