BMW question need help

Hi all not a rover question so hope it's alright to post i have been using my Rover tourer every day now for the past couple of months my BMW x3 2.0d has been sat in the driveway all that time decided to take it out today battery was flat so gave it a jump start only drove a couple of miles when the abs light the handbrake light and the 4x4 light and the tire pressure light all came on but gave it a good run all the same seemed to run fine until i got to the house when the clunking started from the back end it seemed worse in reverse can anyone shed any light on the problem thanks in advance

Based on that information, my guess would be the problems are linked to low battery voltage. Modern cars and their electronic systems are very susceptable. Try a spare battery or take yours out & slow charge it for a few days 'til it's showing around 12.6V, hopefully that might solve it :}

thanks sonic zs that sounds very credible cheers

When BMW’s start to Chuck warning lights after having a flat battery it’s normally a sign the battery is goosed, when replacing a bmw battery make sure you get it registered on a diagnostic machine

INPA or ISTA. Depends on the year and what you want to do. INPA was replaced by ISTA. The BMWs bump the voltage up when charging an older battery to extend the useful life. The IBS is known to cause some weird and wonderful issues.

Ah yes, irritable bowel syndrome, weird and wonderful indeed !!

Do any of these things relate to our cars Jamie?, curious with the BMW links and underpinnings of the 75.

Haha, nope they don't the BMW systems are far more intricate, the electrical systems in the 75 are actually very basic, they are a basically a very simplified E46 electrical system.

All these code letters are marvellous things but totally useless to most folks like myself.--:smilie_re: Now go stand in the corner and say to yourself--I MUST MAKE MYSELF CLEAR IN MY POSTS---:D:D:D

Bumping up the charging voltage will NOT EXTEND a batteries life. ( As BMW found out when they learnt a bit more about batteries. )

Haha, put simply its the BMW dealer diagnostic system, like the T4 was the Rover dealer diagnostic system.

Bumping the voltage up can potentially get some charge in an iffy battery, but it’s by no means something that should really be done. There’s more to the intelligent charging system than that though :)
