Concerned about oil change

I'm currently changing the oil on the Firefrost tourer I purchased recently, however having removed the oil filter first, only a dribble of oil was released. Removing the drain plug released the rest of the contents but I'm a little concerned as to why the majority didn't empty from the filter housing? I guess a potential blockage? Any other less serious answers greatly appreciated. :D

Thanks

Ben.

I think you're worrying unnecessarily Ben. I always drain the sump first and when subsequently removing the disposable canister type of oil filter, I've never had oil flowing out of the engine block. Your filter should be full of the stuff of course! :D

Was it?

Hello Simon. Thanks for the prompt reply. I agree if the drain plug is removed first, however I removed the filter first so the sump was still full?

Sump level is below filter level so most oil is in sump.

I agree, the oil level is well below the oil filter level.

the oil filter is also very high up and only contains the amount of oil it can hold. With the engine not running, little or no oil should be forced out of it.

on some other vehicles the oil filter is lower or even at the bottom of the engine

Thanks all for the assistance. I was sure having done this a number times seeing a larger quantity of oil drain when removing the filter, but perhaps not. :o

All seems ok.
