Are all our locking wheel nuts the same?

Had a flat today on the diesel and on going to change the wheel found the locking wheel nut socket has disappeared. With more hope than expectation I tried the one from my V6 - and hooray and halelluia - it fitted. Which leads to the obvious question: are they all the same?

Unless Santa posts a spare I'm going to get myself four new nuts.

They are usually the same, some of the early cars had a different spline arrangement, I have new ones for sale if you want to keep your locking nuts.

Have a look at the number on the back of the locking wheel nut socket.I believe there are only two different numbers. I won’t say what they are on here.

i think there are 2 types on the socket nos on the socket i took mine of and purchase some normal none locking nuts i got told that nobody wants to nick wheels off a 17 year old car . apart from that the socket was getting quite worn rgds mark

The MGR splined security bits were numbered 11 and 12. Apparently, around 90% were No12.

The V8 and some later models came with a set of McGard bolts, but least said about those the better I guess.
