Water ingress, saloon

Another 2” of water in the footwell today. Thought to be one of the holes between fire wall and plenum chamber (which does not drain fully as the drain by the servo is partially blocked
Also water standing in one of the hollows under the rear seat thought to be coming in around the rear window
Lots of water in the wheel well, rear light seals probably, perhaps also rear window
It’s a low mileage 2002 car that was rot-free but with all the water getting in the last few years I’m getting concerned for its condition. Sills still ok but with water standing on the floor surely there is a risk of the sills being affected over their whole length
Currently I’m continuing to strip out the plenum chamber to deal with front leaks, next to come out will be the servo
I’d welcome any suggestions to deal with this problem which I’ve been unable to solve over the last few years
I might add neither of my other two saloons leak at all

While busy with the plenum remove the windscreen shroud and treat the scuttle clip retainers to some silicon if not already done.

Regards

Thanks. I know about these of course, currently taped over to rule them out. The amount of water coming in the front it’s not them, water running down the toe board behind the thick plastic behind the pedals

No need to strip out the servo as you can deal with that plenum tube from under the car.

also cut 15-20mm of the tube they will never block up again.

add some fish tank sponges into the inner wing outlets to stop debris getting into the plenums

do both sides.

Thanks for your continuing advice Artic. However I think there is a hole between firewall and plenum chamber that has lost its seal , somewhere where pipe, cables, steering column go through so I feel removal of the servo is the only way to thoroughly investigate. You really wouldn’t believe how much water is running down behind the pedals.

Hi Mike.
Have you had any master clutch work done on the car, or any steering column work carried out, if so have the rubber grommets been fitted back correctly? check the large rubber seal around the steering column.
