windows 7 start menu
my windows 7 pc is so very slow to boot up.
Am I right in thinking that any programs at c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start menu or is it c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs are started when the PC boots up? The more in the start menu folder or start menu\programs folder the slower the pc will be to boot up? Could you tell me which folder has the programs that start when the pc starts and is there a way to only have essential programs start? thanks macafee2 |
You need to type msconfig in the "run" window if you can find it. The run window should show up if you right click the widows icon on bottom menu bar.
A window pops up. Select from the top menu the Startup button. You can then check and uncheck and programs you don't want to automatically start on power up. Make sure you know what you are checking etc. Then save and reboot. The next time you reboot programs you don't need to start up on power up won't load up |
Other alternative is to invest in a SSD drive. I bought one last year for about £95. 1 Tb. My windows 7 laptop now boots up in 10 seconds!

If you prefer a simple do-it-all application to clean out the dross, edit start menu stuff, control browser add-ons (many of which get installed without you knowing) and lots more, try IObit's Advanced System Care. It comes in a Free or a licenced version (which is a lot faster).

It could be as well as or instead of. As well as is best as your old drive could become a backup drive.

Not thought about Windows 10?
