Strange sound?
Driving my 2005 diesel powered Rover 75, I've noticed a wooing sound. Its most clear at low speeds 30mph and rises and falls with the engine speed. Its related to the engine. Its not very loud but clear once I tune in to it. When I have switched of the engine I hear what sounds like a fan stopping? Has anybody come across this or a similar issue. Any thoughts welcome.
Thanks in advance. |
Do you have your aircon on ?

Does it sound like a whale whoop?

Have you got a fbh? If you have it might be that starting up, but it would not go up and down with different engine revs.

Hi Alan.
Check your fan is working on low speed, do the demist test, and report back in the mean time read the link below. https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=130557 |

Like you've said, engine speed related, no fans on or anything. |
Not sure what a whale whoop sounds like? LOL its more of ghost wooo....maybe It haunted.

When my aircon needed regassing, there was a distinctive, speed-related 'wooo'. It's the transfer valve in the evaporator feed that's unable to balance the thermal demand with the available gas. A top up fixed it.

It's the aircon for sure. Usually related to lack of cooling, and that is normally to low speed fan failure. but could be that the condenser has lost all it's fins, could also be issues with aircon compressor pump, or incorrect gas pressure. |

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-D...7-no/upload_-1 To know for sure if this is the reason, take the bumper off undo fan surround to gain access to the aircon condenser in front of the engine radiator. There should be fins across the full area of the matrix. They may all drop away by running your finger across them. TC |
