Diesel Tickover

On me home from work when coming off the motorway the engine cut out.
It started no problem but had problems ticking over.
It would start and rev up no problem but take the foot off the accelerator and the engine would cut out.
As long as I kept the engine revs to 1000rpm or above the engine ran ok.
Being an automatic when coming to an island and stopping the revs naturally drop below 1000rpm and it would cut out.
Has anyone an idea when my problem is?

Try running it with the MAF unplugged and see if things improve. If not then make sure the EGR valve isn't sticking or damaged allowing leak past.

Will the MAF have anything to do with the feeling the the car is misfiring now and again when driving normally?

It's possible - some aftermarket MAFs do strange things. It is a quick and easy check to unplug it.

Both problems might even be an injector playing up.--

Are the injectors a pain to change?

Mike Noc 13th November 2020 22:25

Depends on if they are corroded in or not. One other thing worth checking is the HP pressure sensor wiring and plug connections.

Could be difficult as Mike says in his post above.

Maybe the least effort way would be to try some injector cleaner in the fuel tank first.---

Please let us know if you find a way to cure it.

Took fuel filter off and filled it with Redex, ran engine for 30 seconds and left it over night. This morning car started no problem but once warmed up it started playing up again. Cutting out at junctions and when slowing down. Starts straight away but still a pain.
Any ideas please?

Did you try running it with the MAF unplugged? Also, when it cuts out does the oil light come on with key to position II?
