Rover 75 KV6 overhaul
Just finnished the overhaul of the engine and the engine installed in the vehicle.
It cranks perfectly, lots of fuel pressure to the fuel rail, but it won’t start, no petrol smell and the stroboscope lamp didn’t light up connecting it to one of the front ignition leads. Is there a sensor somwhere that stops me getting fuel and ignition? So close, but i’m completely empty for ideas now. Inertia fuel cut off switch checked and was not triggered, all fuses checked, nr 30 and 31 changed. Anyone who can give me some tips here? Even tried another camshaft sensor. I’m going to connect the management system tomorrow with TOAF, a software i have never used. Norwegian petrolhead in distress |

wonder if you missing a earth cable somewhere on the engine, Just an idea as i have read somewhere about something sorry cant help more.

Well, i know there is lost of pressure as i disconnected the fuel line bayonet connection and my jumper tok the blast😂. I also remembered the earth cable on the right hand camshaft cover and the one on the left hand ignition coils. And yes this is May’s old engine witch has undergone alot of work. I found the reason of coolant leak, corrosion under one of the liners that have forced the liner up, and possibly the oil consumption, one piston was missing the oil scraper spacer, from factory i assume, as no evidence in the oil. I think there is a simple solution to this, but out of my imagination at the moment

Will the engine crank if there is an issue with the immobilizer?

That's a good question Ivar and bits of information about this are scattered in different sections of RAVE making it difficult to get a definitive answer.
It appears that you are correct that the immobiliser can disable the starter motor but in conjunction with the ECM it also controls the injectors, fuel pump and ignition coils. So in theory you may have one without the others! Regarding fuel supply, normally I would advise checking for fitment of the filter clip and measuring the actual pressure (it should be 3.5 bar for the V6). Simon |
A quick search gives conflicting views but the majority say that the immobiliser prevents cranking if there is a fault.
When you turn the key does the rev counter needle move at all? - if not then it suggests a problem with the crankshaft sensor. However Toaf should give you more clues. Regards |
Thanks for lots of tips, there are 3 of you now that has mentioned the cranksensor, so i will have a look at this, it might have got damaged during 2 engine removals, one by a workshop and one by me.
So, today it will be TOAF and inspection of cranksensor👍 |
