Sill repair - finally done

Hi folks.
As my 21 year old Lady failed the TÜV (German MOT) due to some rust on the sills I had to some sleepless nights. But finally I decided to do the repair instead of scrapping the car, as no other failures or advisories have been found. Everything else was fine.

So today my mechanic has sent me some pics of the repair. To make it easier for him I ordered the manufactured sill repair parts from EBAY UK. Safed a lot of time and money.

That's how it started.

And that's how it was ongoing.

Now the car is fine for the next 2 years till the next MOT and the next 282.000 km :D

Mr. Hobbs' panels are spreading, a batch in Sweden and now Germany. He made a nice comment when I ordered the sill repair panels for Swedish members saying something like he was very happy to do his bit in keeping British cars running in foreign parts.
Remember folks that Thomas is also planning on doing not only the front sills but also the jacking point structures too.

Regards

I had both rear sills done on my 75 as well as the front offside sill, that was due Tom told me to it being jacked up in the wrong place (not under the Jacking point) and it opening up the seam allowing water in, so make sure you always (and more importantly) any mechanic or tyre monkey does the same ;)

That looks a very professional repair, you are lucky to have such a good man able to do these jobs, these cars are not worth scrapping for a little bit of rust.

That's right. But it is very expensive in Germany to do such a repair

We are very lucky we have Tom Hobbs to do things like this, did you remove the foam/sponge block in the sill?

That looks a nice job too. Quality work.

When I first started as a young mechanic the garage I trained at had a full time gas welder, the cars in them days just rotted away (early 70's), these days garages tell you to take it to a body shop.
