Fuelling problem.
It was all going so well at the MOT test until my ZT V6 auto cut out and would not restart. Suspect fuel pump, but it is running - just not enough pressure to get fuel though, so is it likely to be the fuel pump failing or something else. All suggestions gratefully received.

It's very unlikely to be the pump Malcolm. They are extremely reliable. If you have measured low pressure then check that the filter canister hasn't loosened and that it has the "orange clip" fitted. A forum search will provide lots of information.

Well if it's running but no fuel coming through it could be the pump is worn out or you don't have enough fuel in the tank.
Plus a check with what Simon's post says. |
Non start on an early petrol engine = first check is has the fabled orange clip (FOC) been fitted to the fuel filter to prevent fuel filter syndrome - ie filter separation causing fuel pressure loss - as raised by Simon. If not then a possible a £5 fix

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. My mechanic has just rung to say the filter had collapsed. Now sorted, and a new MOT, with just 2 advisories - slight oil leak (been there for ever and doesn't use any oil) and a deteriorating rear number plate (which is the original from Perry's of Leeds 19 years ago in March!) so not too bad all told.
