Buying/selling a 75/ZT?

I read today that a member had to scrap his car because of little interest in a sale posted on this site. While this is sad, it is obviously a reality, it happened to me. We can't get what we're expecting.
This makes me think that, providing you have the knowledge, a private buy could be the way to go. I bought my present car for 1200 quid, previous owner wasn't a member, so the car was std. A Firefrost diesel conn 04, 64k miles, new clutch etc. I also observe that many of the Mk1's now are suffering from the dreaded 'tin worm' not so much the bodywork (because many are cherished) but the sills, suspension arms etc. Brian touched on this recently, (no, let's not go back there) it's the underneath that's important along with the mechanical condition.

At the end of the day, when looking for a car, we want a cheap purchase with minimum outlay thereafter, holy grail.

Buy a Vauxhall, cheap spares and easy to work on with the old chain driven eco tech...... Don't buy a diesel unless its a Isuzu!

I find it very sad that he ended up scrapping a very nice car that he had put so much effort into.

I think a lot of people are also put off older cars now because we don't know where we are heading with this pollution thing. How much dare you put into a car that you may not be able to drive in your local city.

Look at the other member who lives in London who posted recently.

The really sad thing from my point of view is that it happened because I couldn't drive it any longer being a manual. Had I not got the knee issues I have I would probably been buried in it.

My knee and hip problems also forced me to sell my fully sorted Connoisseur SE. I wasn't asking a fortune for it and it was a pristine example but got no joy trying to sell it in the members cars for sale section. It sold very quickly via Gumtree at a fraction under my asking price and the guy travelled a couple of hundred miles (twice) to view and collect it! I miss some of my Conny SE toys but am very happy with the 2.0 litre V6 Auto that I am running now. It may even outlast me! :shrug:Mike

Almost seems like you are my doppleganger:D Mine was a Connoisseur SE & I've got a 2.0 Auto I'm getting sorted.

Just the knee at the moment. No hip problems yet, but no doubt in time;):D

Had it on Gumtree as well as eBay + others & no luck at all.

Paul

Your second paragraph is one that ‘gets my goat’. Not you personally.
We have it in our own hands. Don’t go shopping in towns and cities that impose stupid payments to go into them. If everyone did this, they would soon think they had made a mistake. Why does pollution have to cost money? Because it is a racket, that’s why.

Since I got my free travel pass, I’ve not driven into London once.

I still find it strange that a 10 year old Honda 50cc cub motorcycle has to pay a pollution charge but a 10 year old diesel black cab is exempt !

Makes no sense to me unless it’s all about revenue raising.

Petitions is the way forward me thinks.if everyone clubs together and signs em,what can they do if we all refuse to pay it.money grabbing bar stewards😡

Over some time I have observed quite a number of what might be termed almost irate posts by people trying to sell their cars in the members section on here who fail to sell ( I'm not suggesting in this particular case ).

It never ceases to amaze me that sellers get so upset because nobody has snatched their hand off and they seem to take it quite personally.

Whilst it is natural to be disappointed, hasn't it struck people that it might be nothing to do with price or condition but more to do with the fact that no one on this forum wants that particular car at the time that they are trying to sell it?

There might be someone who has been looking for exactly the car being sold but don't have any spare cash at the time, someone else may love to have it but already have 3 other Rovers or other cars and can't justify or accommodate another car.

It may not be in the spec or fuel derivative that the small amount of people at any one time are looking for.

It may not be in the colour or not have a sunroof that an eager buyer has been looking for for weeks.

It might be in a distant part of the country and a potential buyer doesn't wish to travel that far.

It could be that a suitable potential buyer has bought another car just a week or two previously and may well be kicking themselves that they had just bought but would have preferred the new one on offer but it's now too late.

It could be any reasonable reason amongst dozens that the fairly limited number of people at any one time on this forum might be considering that rules 'this particular one out'.

Again some sellers (not this one) almost sound aggressive in their rhetorical comments after no one has come forward to snap their hand off to buy their car, even one at a very reasonable price and condition.

And I think those who do get a touch narky have a real cheek in virtually trying to make others feel bad even though we're already fixed up with our own cars.

I think that some people need to chill out and accept that theres nothing wrong with their car or the price advertised but that there just isn't anyone on the forum who wishes to buy it at that time. Another time it might fly off the shelf.

It's just pot luck but no reason to get narky about it and wrong of failed sellers to harp on trying to make others who are just minding their own business feel bad for some bizarre reason.

There almost seems to be a presumed right that someone off the forum must buy a car for sale in the members section simply because it's a Rover 75 forum.

Well it doesn't work like that, never did and never will.
