Old maps Vs new maps
Found this excellent app on a Facebook page. It allows you to slide from a modern map to old map 1888-1913.

I got this from a Speedway website, it was used for looking up the old tracks.

Very interesting. The OS First Series 1 map (1805 - 1869) has our house shown on it but it's not possible to read the actual name i.e. what it was called at the time.

I love old maps/guide books & have far too many of them. I have a focus on London & collect the old A to Z atlases.
It only started because l bought a couple of period maps to chuck on the back seat of my cars when at shows or rallies. |
Theres also this site: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoo...1&layers=6&b=1
It lets you change which map you view and then overlays satellite images so you can see how it looks now. I use it a lot to trace old railway lines and find where airfields used to be for a bit of exploring. |
Cheers, that used up all my lunch break 😆

Love maps old and new but found an interesting anomaly in the OS in London, 1874 - street marked and titled, 1894 - street marked but no title, 1913 street marked and titled. The foot print of the area had not changed so maybe the clerk in 1894 just couldnt be bothered? Chris.S.
