Twist drills look to run clockwise but the triangular bit runs anti clockwise

I don't think that it is running backwards.

Look at it at start up, and then when it come to a halt. Both are running forwards (with respect to the cutting edge)

When at speed, it appears to run backwards, well known synch problem with rotating wheels etc, being filmed.

Easier to see this if you watch the chuck, rather than the milling bit.

Mike

Also, never use flourescent light in a workshop! I tried to explain it to a H&S guy from the County Inspectorate but until he saw a stationary wheel that wasn't, he didn't understand it!!! :icon_rolleyes: We got new (non flourescent) lights soon after!

Go on, explain, never heard that before. Never noticed an issue in my garage.

Very true and if the lights are florescent the cutter can appear stationary.

It's a stroboscopic effect.---( As for ignition timing lamps for engines. )

If the strobe flickers at the same rate as a revolving object the object will appear to stop moving.---VERY dangerous.

Seeking that effect in your garage you just have to spin your missus around a tad faster to match 50 cycles of the mains supply.---
