Rather like our energy services, leaving these things to market forces means losing out to countries that invest.

Jaguar employ a lot of skilled British people in design and manufacturing. It shows in the elegance and quality of their cars.

Yesterday 6th July 2022 was the date that makes anti-speeding technology and a so-called black box mandatory for all new cars. The controversial features are a requirement in every car introduced after July 6, 2022. https://todaynewspost.com/auto-news/...box-mandatory/
What price an expensive very fast Tesla model S plaid in the years to come if it has to adhere to national speed limits!

After years of uncertainty about the jobs & the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Halewood it's now safe & is now being converted to build JLR's new EV's in 2024. https://electrek.co/2022/09/21/jagua...tric-vehicles/

More trouble at mill for Jaguar! Are we going to see the UK auto manufacturing fall even further behind because of chronic under investment in NEV (new energy vehicles supplies)

Jaguar are going full electric by 2025 but with no signs of early battery supplies on the horizon, They need to look further afield.

"The UK lacks the cell and pack factories automakers will need to support their transition away from the internal combustion engine. In what could be a fresh blow to British carmaking, the country’s top auto manufacturer, Jaguar Land Rover, is in talks with Northvolt and SVolt Energy Technology about supplying batteries for a range of EVs it may assemble in Slovakia, according to people familiar with the matter.
Unless battery investment picks up, carmakers may only accelerate their exodus from what was once the world’s second-biggest auto manufacturing base. The last few years, the UK fell outside the top 15."

JLR do have a battery assembly centre, although I have no idea what the output is like.
It's at Hams Hall (M42 J9) just across the road from BMW's engine plant.

Hams Hall was the final concentrated facility for all engines (don't know about transmissions) for the rump of the BL empire.

I think that’s a slightly disingenuous statement, implying new models are only made abroad.

Jaguar make all their models in the UK, apart from the E-Pace which is (or was) sub-contracted to Magna in Austria as there isn’t the capacity at Halewood to add the third model to the Discovery Sport and Evoke line (as they are all the same platform). Land Rover do have their own plant in Nitra, Czech Republic where the Defender and Discovery 5 are made, other production facility for the remaining non-Evoke Range Rovers is in Solihull.

Mini also make most of their cars in the UK, except they also build in the Netherlands (and all Clubman’s are made here) and Magna again in Austria make the Countryman, both under contract.

As above Jaguars are developed in the UK and all engines are made near Telford, I imagine Minis are BMW developed in Germany, but again engines are UK produced at Hams Hall.

JLR are retraining 29000 of their staff globally over the next three years to work on EV's, It must be a huge disruption to skilled engineers/mechanics who have been working on ICE vehicles for decades. https://todaynewspost.com/auto-news/...-for-ev-world/
