I'm an ex- Transit van owner (twice) and you do really need to specify what you really want. Mk5, Mk 6, Mk 7, Mk 8, Custom, Connect? SWB, MWB, LWB, Jumbo? Panel van, pick up, tipper, box van, crew cab? 90, 110, 125, 150PS? Low roof, medium roof, high roof? The list is endless

All vans are in short supply at the moment. As said above, a very specialised area. Watch out for axle ratios as you could end up with a gas guzzler. If you don't carry a lot of weight, go for a higher ratio diff.

The Transit is a good van mechanically, but the bodies are trash and prone to rust. Certainly anything up to 11 plate was. The mk8 fromm14 onwards had poor security, apparently you could stick a screwdriver in the lock and easily open the doors, also the hinges were very poor. If you still decide to get one, get one with the six speed gearbox as they are better on fuel,
I had a 07 plate which was heavy on fuel and a rot box, but a nice drive. I now have a Vauxhall Vivaro 1:6 bi turbo which is great.

I'd agree the Transits, to the Mk 7 were very, very rust prone and both the Mk 6 and especially the Mk 7 that I owned were great to drive, The Mk6 I had was a 125PS SWB panel van low roof with a custom made GRP high roof added and the Mk 7 was 110PS MWB with standard Ford medium height metal roof.

I would second the Vivaro - great motors. My neighbor has been a Trannie man all his life. Whilst the Eastleigh products had their issues, he reckons the Turkish one's have more but he is only on his second Turkish Delight so his opinion and experience might change.

A Transit 200ps is an amazing van, 198 hp and 350lb/ft. Most are owner drivers as it was an expensive special order and many are in amazing condition with lowish mileage.

As has been said vans are in short supply, a mate has a new van on order (Transit custom ) with no delivery date and there computer goes up to 6 months ahead. A local double glazing company had a bad smash in one of there vans and it was repaired as the insurance company could not find a replacement.
