BMW E46 wide-screen 16:9

Hello all,
Does the E46 wide-screen Headunit have to be the cassette variant or can you use the CD unit too?

If it's the CD version does that mean that you loose the use of the CD multichanger?

Thank you

Paul

Both back versions fully plug and play. From my experience unless you disconnect the CD multichanger it will take priorty over the head unit CD player, not sure what happens if you have the tape version - best of both worlds maybe

Thank you very much for that...it's really helpful.

You don't know any must haves for swapping the rest of a E46 system onto ours?

Cheers,

Paul

Mine is cassette type and the menu still scrolls through radio ,tape, CD. you do need the 16.9 tuner as well ;) but its all plug and play

The CD player 16:9 requires a BM54 radio module.

The Rover TV module doesn't support 16:9 and so your wide screen will only display in 4:3 so for full effect you'll need an analogue BMW unit (anything from £20-£80+, plenty on e-bay etc.) or should you be flushed and also want to view TV find a BMW digital module but expect to lay out +£200 (not so readily available but for some reason they seem plentyful in the Baltic states!!).

I think it works with a BM24 too which is plug and play when you fit the BM54 which has the dual tuner for TMC you’ll need an adapter cable because pins are different if memory serves me correctly

Thank you

I've been trawling through the threads on this upgrade...the dust is beginning to settle on them, it seems the majority of people leading them have moved onto other projects.

I have read that the BM54 needed an adapter, were the standard Highline Rover systems all BM24?

Not heard from anyone about the I-Bus clock module yet sadly.
Duncan I think was the man making those.
Allows time ETA on SatNav

Cheers
