Longevity of Mk2/Facelift CDTi fuel pump

Hi I have a CDTi facelift with the one intank pump and I have done 72K and although I know they seem to have less trouble than the two pump setup have members experienced any problems. What is the highest milage recorded on these pumps....thanks:}

You never hear of Mk2 pumps failing, I'm sure they do but just not at the alarming rate of the Mk1s

Cant remember hearing of one on here or on ORG.

Doesn't mean to say none have worn out of course .

My 75 history

MkI 75bought at 90k sold at140k no pump failure
MkI 75 bought at 130k sold at 170k no pump failure
MkII 75 bought at 120k sold at 150k no pump failure
MkII 75 bought at under 35k now at 55k no pump failure (yet) :D

Plus never had a diesel pump failure in any of my Rovers, and they have all been diesel.

Can I really be that lucky.

Always used nothing but Texaco diesel, and never let the tank go below 1/4 full, most of the time it is around 1/2 full

Hi that's very interesting I put my hand up here and sometimes don't top up until the fuel low light comes on and there may be a case of keeping the tank 1/4 full but I have read accounts where some members have kept their tanks 1/4 full and still suffer pump problems. Generally I haven't read much about Mk2 failures; are they a more robust ? and are they readily available for any future fitment

Mine is a Mk II, but has the two pumps, both seem to be originals and no problems at 105k. I do often run it down to fuel warning light.

Some MK II's have just a single pump.

I have an 04 cdti mk2, and yes, they do fail. My under bonnet fuel pump went at 42k earlier this year.
I confess that I let the diesel get under 1/4 tank.:o

Hi thanks for the info I checked my car; late 54 and it only got one pump and I assume that this pump is different to the pump in the tank on Mk1 or two pump system

CDTi Fuel Pumps / long winded explanation !

Yes. the pump is different.
I looked at the cost of converting from 2 pumps to one but it was totally uneconomic.
It seems to be horses for courses with low fuel/pump failure with a number of members saying they regularly go down to the light without problems but the majority do seem to be more likely to have pump failure jf run much below a quarter of a tank.
As I have frequently repeated, I added Millers DPP to every tank from new & never went below a quarter. I even started adding 2 stroke oil for add. pump lubrication. However, after 8 years (40,000 miles) I did have occasion to run down to the fuel light, only travelling some 6 miles to fill up.
MY I/T PUMP IMMEDIATLY FAILED
The U/B pump operated faultlessly for the 20-30 miles before I/T pump was replaced. (though after 3 RAC call outs and a number of no starts at home, which seemed to resolve themselves by waiting, the U/B pump also failed at 46,000 miles, finally stranding me until the RAC came and tapped the pump. (something I should have remembered myself !)
MORAL OF THE STORY:- If your diesel fails to start, first check I/T pump is working then check U/B pump is ok and tapping if necessary. Very easy, very quick and costs nothing.
Car will run ok for some time with U/B pump only, if sufficient fuel in tank, probably half a tank or more.

I've now done 67,000 miles, had the car since new, with no pump failure - I frequently wait until low fuel warning before I fill up. I do use miller additive though.
