Leak from CDT fuel cooler
 

This morning I noticed a damp patch beneath the fuel cooler. The car is a 2002 CDT (remapped in 2017) and completed about 142000+. Car starts fine and runs well.
Took a photo and did a search on here first of all. Not a new problem by the sound of it. Before plunging in there is a damp 'spray' over the fuel tank side. Nothing under there looks to be in a wonderful condition, but any pointers what to look at first please? Thanks, Ray

Hi Ray.
first thing is to spray all over with engine cleaner, then after an hour jet wash it all off, repeat if need be.

This will clean the whole area and then give you a good indication of where the leak is coming from, it will most likely be one of the hoses splayed out on the end usually a trim will sort it, if not then a new hose will do it, hopefully it not black thermostat unit if it is they are the same as a Freelander 1 so should be available. David may see the post as he sorted is out a couple of years ago.

The damp patch doesn't seem to be getting any bigger. This virus business isn't really helping things, so may well have to hope and leave, not ideal.

It will be the valve on the cooler rather than the cooler itself, they are well known for leaking.

Well, not been able to do anything about. Will move it and put a container under the drip for now. I've looked at the somewhat useless Haynes brick which does not really help at all. Trikey – where might the valve be please? Ta.

Well, thanks for all comments. Had a look today cleaning up the cooler. Various bits of rubbish fell off, but the actual cooler doesn't look too bad.
The whole pipe/valve thing wobbles around (green on pic) and there is a 'wire' loose, not attached to anything (yellow on pic) ?
The wettest part is along the bottom of the 'radiator'/grill, and drips off the red plastic tie. Possibly it could being dripped on above but can't see anything.

As you can tell I'm not very mechanically minded and don't like undoing things if not really knowing what I'm doing and will it fit back again after! If I try taking the whole thing off for examination, how does fuel stop flowing?

The wire is an earth for the cooler - it should be connected to the cooler by the bolt just to the right of it in your photo.
