I expect I probably do about 12k over next two years, so disc should last for at least another 10 years lol.

Hmm cost, mine weren't that cheap as it's a 190 with full vented discs around. Guys at Chelmer Rover have done good job.

jgriffo 26th August 2014 21:22

Checked the bulkhead plenums as the rain we have had the last few days prompted me to check and I'm very glad I did!! Water was just lapping at the bottom of the black plastic ECU housing

There was no sign of any water ever being on the ECU so I'm happy I got to it in time.

Another little job done :}

Oh and whoever did the pollen filter on it last managed to get it upside down and back to front

So you're car smelled nice and fresh from the outside, but inside it smelled like outside?? :D :D

rathlindri 27th August 2014 22:14

Ordered a door lock release cable for my front drivers door. I have "repaired" the broken one twice now and next time it lets go I'll replace it. Not in any hurry to remove the door card!

Lee Parkhill 29th August 2014 19:24

Well today I had a wee holiday off work so I put my mind on the zt,

I bought 2 new FAI front drop links to cure a dreadful rattle at the front it seems to have taken most of the rattle away but just not as smooth as I would like it to be everything else seems to be tight enough tho,

I then proceeded to paint the brakes all round my mg is trophy blued so I opted for SILVER lol, so as the paint was drying as I was using a 2 post lift I tidied a few mudflaps.

VMax1000 29th August 2014 19:51

Getting boring, I know.....

But again did nothing. Just fuelled up and drive.

Maybe I should do something to post about :)

Having said that, trying to get the wheels balanced tomorrow

Organiser 29th August 2014 20:12

Removed about 1/2 litre of evil smelling gearbox oil from the sparewheel well of my 1.8 Turbo ZT-T, which had spilled out of a Supra gearbox I collected the other day. :duh:

At least the well won't rust now! :D :getmecoat:

Tom.

Today checked Plenums all nice and dry.
Also checked all fluids and they are all fine
I just need to wash and polish now :drool4:

Looks like new!! Good work!
Oh and btw, is it lowered in any way? The wheels fill out the arches perfectly! Springs?

Billy1mate 30th August 2014 12:59

Well, last week, fitted 190 front brake upgrade & new anti roll bar drop links.

RogerHeinz57 30th August 2014 17:52

What I did with my Rover 75/MG ZT today?

Ive never been too sure about the interior colour mix on my 75. Sandstone door cards with vinyl smokestone against smokestone seating. So all door cards and centre console are now smokestone. A few more bits to source but really pleased with how it turned out.
Plenty still to do.

Simondi 30th August 2014 18:22

What did I do in my ZT today? I just drove it and enjoyed myself :D

Trevor1975 30th August 2014 18:40

Key locking on drivers door

Fixed my door handle - turrning the key was not turning the driveshaft or unlocking anything so I was 100% reliant on the central remote locking.

Eventually got a donor handle a few weeks ago...

Finally today got around to taking the doorhandle off (easy thanks to the excellent how-to threads on here ) took out the broken cable and replaced it... all back together now and the key locks and unlocks the door :D

No more 100% reliance on the remote key fob and prayng not to have a flat battery!

Then I fitted a new subwoofer with a much better low frequency response. Sounds great..

Then I went out for a nice drive and rain-ex'd all the windows.

Happy days :D

Mr_Shed 30th August 2014 20:19

Today I have cleaned and hoovered the ZT I preparation for tomorrow meet at Ely, then unexpected early delivery of my Intravee II so been playing with that :D.

Yes, calipers are bigger and so are the discs :)

JJ75 30th August 2014 21:47

Well today i had the pleasure of fitting a new crankshaft pulley(lovely easy job-NOT!),also fitted a replacement O/S rear door lock.
Now,no more engine rattle and all doors lock/unlock! RESULT.:D
Did plan on washing/waxing but never got chance..........there's always tomorrow :}

jgriffo 30th August 2014 21:56

Fitted a pair of Bosch Aero wipers and tested the FBH. It cuts out after 127 seconds so looks like some attention will be needed.

brickie501 30th August 2014 22:39

Fought my ZT for hours trying to service it

Changed the oil & tried to replace the fuel filter

Car fought me all the way: undertray remove/refit, over-tightened sump plug & seized on fuel filter.

Had to double check with my mechanic brother that Freelander oil filter fitment was OK so, with above, oil change was a faff but OK...

... however, I didn't have my strap (oil) filter removal tool so fuel filter refused to budge from filter head despite my efforts. Whole lot's back on for now.

Will give the strap a go tomorrow but any tips/ideas as the plastic filter head is obviously more delicate than the average oil filter housing.

I've got the white BMW ones. They don't look right to me, so I took them off again...

What I did today?
I always hated the minimal light that came from my glovebox. So today I took it out, drilled 6 holes and mounted 6 warm white LED.

It's strange, VAG cars think they're too upmarket for analog clocks so have digital, the old analog clocks don't have illuminated needles, the onky ones i have founf are from: Bentley, Rolls Royce, Maserati, some SUVs but the needles are massive and a performace Peugeot. Fancy eyeing up the prices on one of them!?

Phew, the trusty socket strap tool got it undone ... eventually; it took me kneeling on the filter head, while it was sandwiched between two planks of wood, & leaning on the ratchet.:eek:

Oh plus I went to the meet at The Ely. Happy birthday Shiner & thanks for the cake!

Bought a new set of tyres

Today I called around locally and then bought 4 Nokian zLine 225/45 18's from Tyreleader to replace the very tired SportContac 3s on my ZT-T.

I was thinking about another set of Hankook Evos I had on my AMG E36, but the Nokians beat them in a recent shootout and were £20ea cheaper per wheel. They have excellent reviews on TyreReviews too.

I'm going to fit them this weekend to the Apex wheels I bought a few weeks ago.

Pics on the car soon.

I've been using them for many years, not on the R75 though as the tyres are still good.

But when and if I change Nokians it will be. :D

Interesting comments about the Nokians.
My Conti. Contact 5s, on the front, are coming up for replacement soon
I think that I will have a look at these. ;)

Fitted a new clutch master cylinder to the ZT, what a chore I hasten to add.

Not Tazu or Andy Willi, but genuine MGR, working on the principle that if the original has lasted for 11 years and over 120k, it couldn't be all that bad, especially at the special price I paid :drool4:

On the plus side I can now drive the thing again, if only the people who changed the DMF clutch and slave 15k back had done the whole shooting match :getmecoat:

Neither, I bought the same equipment that the commercial printer I used had.
I can actually see a profit from the work now..

I can also turn work over faster and provide a on the spot service, visit me, design a dial, print, laminate and fit in an hour or two..

Just remember Bob that whatever you buy put the newer/better tyre on the Rear Axle... ;)

Ciao.

Supervinnie40 2nd September 2014 18:36

Nothing to do with my 75 (well... not much), but I still wanna share it because it makes me feel good :).

Last week I bought those BMW wheels that turned out to be very wrong. ET:20, 5x120 and way to big for the 75 (18" with 245/45).
So I cleaned them up real nice, polished the spokes, gave them a nice coating and put them back on the second hand website.

They where just picked up, and I made a very nice profit. And I don't even have to feel guilty because he was blown away by how clean they looked. He was really happy with them and considered my price a steal.

Now on the hunt for the right wheels. And I've already got a very nice pair in mind, but the guy doesn't answer his phone.

Best_of_British 2nd September 2014 21:39

Today I bought another car that looks the same as this:

DragonFly 3rd September 2014 19:43

Today, I am actually glad that my 75 is (still) off the road.

Took the Nissan Shed to work today and some http://abcbristol.sytes.net/bill/i/forums/censored.gif (ummm delightful & thoughtful person), decided to redecorate my front offside wing with the back of their vehicle. Meaning that when I got back to the car, I couldn't open the drivers door.

A rather swift steel toe cap boot to the trailing edge of the front wing soon sorted that.

The cars covered in dents anyway (it used to belong to a student), so I'm not too bothered about the damage, a second hand front wing will set me back a whole £15. But it's the principle of someone doing that to someone elses car, no matter how ratty it is, and not even leaving a note to say 'sorry mate'. http://abcbristol.sytes.net/bill/i/forums/ranting2.gif

Had it have been the 75, I'd now be sat in a police cell on a charge of murder http://abcbristol.sytes.net/bill/i/forums/evil.gif

in the process of cleaning the PCV filter

Just took out the PCV filter and got the filter soaking in white spirit, Doing this as a stop gap diagnostic thing to see if I can stop the old girl chugging, Ill order a new filter when i've got the money to do so, Got to say the filter didn't look to bad, or as bad as I thought it would anyway!

Tomorrow i've got to fish a socket that fell somewhere behind the engine! hope it does not damage! :duh:

But i do have a question, I took the injector return pipe off, will this introduce air into the fuel system at all, I partially re-attached them while I soak my filter but will not re-assemble until tuesday (iver when the filter is dry, or I get a new one sent to me!) should it be good or should I have to do any other steps to rectify this before I turn her over for the first time after putting her back together.

I will state on monday I have enough money for a new filter, but it will take upto a week and a half to get to me and I am not paying the £15 next day-----ish delivery (as that costs nearly twice what the filter replacement costs!)

Washed, polished and hoovered out, set off in a southerly direction at 10.45, at 12.30 I was headed in a northerly direction after the RAC chap told me I had HGF.......

Back at the ranch, I've replaced the front bearing in my alternator, and fitted a new auxiliary belt, and PAS belt.

Back in action now, but the moral of the story is, don't leave a car standing for five months, and drive it like you've just been out to the shops.

You have to just love it, day wrecked again !!

Thanks for the likes guys. I wasn't sure these would be right, but after taking this photo I was sure. I was deciding between the VW R36 wheels en these ones.

@ Jordan, these are VW Interlagos wheels, made for the Passat CC car (and I believe also the Scirocco?). But I'm getting new centre caps made with the Rover logo.
They are 18" 8J rims with 225/40 tyres.
And thanks on the compliment for the clean look :), I'm still not satisfied, but she does look quite nice :D.

Not quite..... I own several angle grinders and the Passat round the corner would look ok on bricks...;)

I'm a detailer mate.... it's never clean enough. And if I look at it from real close, I can sometimes still find certain spots. Unacceptable.

But if you spent the whole day working on cars, you don't feel like much polishing anymore when you're at home :).

Haha, i like the brash use of the term unacceptable! Fully understand that :) still looks very good, I know how much Klarzy likes the effort that goes into cleaning cars ;)

Forestgreen 10th September 2014 21:31

I took Forestgreen for her MOT and annual service today. Once again she sailed through, so as a reward I treated her to a wash and hand polish at the local East European cleaning outfit. Despite Halfrauds having told me the recent parking scrape had cut right through the paint they somehow managed to completely polish out all traces of the offending car from my door which has delighted me. Reckon I'll be back again before too long to sort out the tiny paint chips that if you look very closely stop her looking like she just came out of the factory.

Oh and I sense some more walnut will be on the order books too!

TeeCee 11th September 2014 16:08

Leaves now falling from trees, so spent a few minutes running a full cycle test on the fuel burning heater.

Glad I did. First run warmed up nicely, then aborted accompanied by clouds of smoke out of its intake and a seemingly endless pause before the purge cycle kicked in. Second time through ran like a charm. I suspect a brief interruption in the fuel supply due to the length of time since last used.

I'm sure that had the first run happened in anger, I'd have excreted bricks at the sight of all that smoke from under the bonnet.....

New gearbox, original new old stock Rover flywheel, Borg & Beck clutch kit and slave cylinder all in place and running smoothly yesterday.

Props to DMGRS!
The Borg & Beck clutch kit is fantastic, the springs really help with a smooth engagement and the clutch pedal feels a heck of a lot nicer.

Probably aided by the new flywheel and new clutch fluid as well.
Flywheel had about two inches of movement in it and was covered in bright blue patches from slipping I assume.

http://i.imgur.com/ajDNwZSl.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/dFNImX8l.jpg

Looks like the original slave cylinder, 124k on it! bearing was well shot.

this is what the clutch fluid looked like too, after running almost a cup full of fresh fluid through. the stuff that came out was opaque and grey. Like the flywheel, it too appears to have been the original stuff from the factory.

http://i.imgur.com/qGu1tjfl.jpg

full of bits, odourless, watery and definitely not good.

The clutch fluid was actually the most painful part, Haynes manual says the clutch system is fed from the brake fluid reservoir, which we found out it isn't. Instead, the reservoir is on the master cylinder, and is totally inaccessible.
The subframe was unbolted on the gearbox side and loosened engine side, and with the help of a gearbox lifting jack it came out with minimal fuss, with the linkage arm just touching the chassis leg as it was wiggled down.

trikey 12th September 2014 22:28

Brought from Land Rover trade parts via fleabay, less than £30.
I didn't want a hose mod and this wasn't expensive.

Size counts but little things are important. Not touched either of my MG ZTs lately but did some TLC on my favourite 620ti I've had for over eight years. This one :~

Your 620ti looks very nice:D, always good to see the earlier cars on the road rather than tucked up in collections and heated garages.

Mr_Shed 16th September 2014 19:42

Funny enough I was thinking of one of these to save washing every weekend as she doesn't get used much in week. Is it breathable, do you get much issue with rubbing on paintwork?

MangoMan 16th September 2014 20:18

Hi there....

As far as the Cover goes first of all it is not completely waterproof with heavy rain, it does permeate somewhat, although it does filter the rain so you don't get dirt of watermarks. But it is with light showers or dew etc. Of course it does protect from dust, leaves and bird droppings very well!

With regard to marks being left, yes it does - but I only find it on the front wing tops mostly, but these are easily removed using a good cleaner-wax. (I use Meguiars Cleaner-Wax). But I will say these only appear after extended use, (4-5 days) and when it's windy.

But it does the job and well worth the money in my opinion.

I've left it once for about 10 days and all it needed was a quick wipe-down and a bit of polishing where needed. But in 20 minutes you're good to go and it looks just like it's come from a valet! And this was in winter! In actual fact the picture below was taken just after that sort of thing...... See for yourself!

http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/...7.jpg~original

This is the Cover I bought - It was a bit cheaper when I bout it about 3 years ago now, I think it was about 37 quid then.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3906222563...84.m1436.l2649

Look, it's not perfect, but then it's cheaper than building a garage or getting the really top quality ones that cost in the region on 250 to 300 pounds!!!

All I can say is I'm glads I have it..... :D

ps. As far as breathable - I've never found moisture under the cover, even when left after rain and the outside is dry.

Hi Mangoman,

Thank you for the information I shall definatly look into that as my poor car gets dirty over the week sitting idle so would make sense to keep worst off at least. :). Certainly works for your well presented car.

Tbh we would all love a heated garage but we don't all have that luxury, can't even find a decent garage round my way as everybody filling them with stuff they will never use for next ten plus years.

Oe further question does it fold up into a reasonable size, ie so could put in boot?

Tony.

Quite a common fault on the Inlet Ducting, (Shannon Tubes) on these cars. Jules supplies new ones... ;)

Like your 'Ramps' by the way.... :)

Think I posted this before, but as I have a V8, I fuelled up again.

Next time I may post when I get a change to get the car cleaned..

In a car wash that is.................:getmecoat:

Not today but at the weekend I fitted a little slip of plastic under the pedal box to stop the annoying clicky noise I got every time I released the clutch pedal (it actually worked too)

Well... not overly impressed with today...

Did my inlet manifold and another oil change. The oil change is simple, but never done a inlet manifold before, so it took me some time to figure it all out. The old gasket was very worn:

But then I got my parcel from Rimmerbros... 1 rear sill tread plate cover thingy was missing. So I emailed them.
Then suddenly I got an e-mail from paypal, saying I got a refund of 8.35 gbp, even though the missing item costs 12.98.
So sent them another e-mail to ask for clarification. But they don't seem to answer...
Not very impressed with their idea of customer service...

I also spotted a fair bit of oil right at the place where the gearbox and the engine are bolted together. Already checked the transmission fluid, but that seemed to be fine. Still slightly worried about the amount of oil at that spot...

Also noticed that the engine has a slight problem with revving. I made a little video, and if you listen carefully, you'll noticed that the moment I rev the engine, it seems to 'drown' before revving up.
A little bit like what happens if you open up the throttle on a very old engine with the shoke turned on. It sounds a bit like a hiss before it starts to rev...

I'm gonna replace the spark plugs in a few weeks, so if it will probably be solved with just that, I'm happy...

This maybe should be what I did this week :)

1: fitted the ash grey electric heated leather seats I bought myself for my birthday - wasn't sure I'd like them BUT they add a certain 'something' to the car and surprisingly seem to hold you in your seat better than the velour ones they replaced. It's just a shame the switches are from the same Rover parts bin as the window switches BUT still a win that one :}

2. had the flip key cut - hmmm it only cost about £10 so I'm not going to complain too much but the sticker was printed offset and is very pixelated, and the unlock button is rubbish BUT it works and looks ok from a distance

3. Walnut steering wheel - seriously easy to do with the right tools and very worth it!

4. Chrome Bullit mirrors - THE best thing I've done this week was replacing the 'mickey mouse ears' skullcaps with what was designed for the car - the difference is actually rather remarkable!

Got in from work and found a parcel with the new pollen filter and PRT, so went out to fit the pollen filter first ...and found a load of water in there, tubes all blocked up with rubber type gunk ( Foam from the old pollen filter me thinks)

so stripped it all down and got the tubes all nice and clean ..and the scuttle area as well)

Fitted PRT and swore at car a few times trying to bleed the system....Still not sure if it is done but have gave up

Calibra was so much simpler to do:shrug:
