andy1968 16th February 2014 08:39

I planned to wash the car today and clean the interior, however, fate intervened and my car is at the garage with an electrical fault, so I get to stare at an empty driveway and SWMBO has instructed me to do some household chores instead

Took the cover off, gave it a quick wipe with a cloth and gave it a quick blast to my daughter's apartment, had a cup of tea and came back.. Felt jolly good..!

Jordan Apex 16th February 2014 11:58

Hopefully sorted the alarm issue and gave it the first clean since skirts and crome trims were put on :D

Alan123 16th February 2014 13:11

Well I've checked all fluid levels and Plenums on Connie all fine then checked all levels on wife's fiat then son number 1 was dad can you do mine so checked his levels on his citreon and low and behold son number 2 came back from footy in his astra and said you may as well do mine why your at it so four cars checked. I think if I charged them all theyed soon learn how to do it themselves lol

Darkxs 16th February 2014 13:52

Replaced the old lights with xenon projectors :D Fixed split light leveling wire:}. Replaced the under bonnet fuel pump as the old one sounded like the doors of a Victorian mansion. Braced myself for the ITP replacement next week - waiting for seals and fuel level to drop. Now pondering if to go an fit the auto dim mirror or have some crisps.

Darkxs 16th February 2014 15:06

Torpedo badges are now on the doors :-)

Simondi 16th February 2014 16:12

Today, I had a constructive day:D
Washed, polished and vacuumed the ZT. I also flushed out my washer bottle and it looks like my dodgy level sensor is fixed now:thumbup: last but not least I repositioned my puddle lights

These sensors can be somewhat confusing when a fault occurs with them. My former car used to flash up on the message sensor that it was low, when the ambient temperature was -5C

In the end I replaced it, and no further problems..

Today I fitted COB led's to my interior lights. Now very bright...... :D:D

nomzamo999 16th February 2014 16:23

Easy peasy

Changed my cabin pollen filter today.
Was pleasantly surprised that the ECU cables were long enough to lift the unit completely clear without having to undo the brown cable clips.
Checked plenum drains at the same time - all clear, as usual.
Whole job took ten minutes. :}
The only downside was that one of those silly clips on the scuttle/windscreen retainer pinged off when I levered it out, and vanished down the back of the engine.
Presumably it'll drop out on the road somewhere, never to be seen again.
Really cross with myself, because normally I always put a finger over the clip to prevent just that, grr!

The rear loads space lights was a simple stick in and forget. The lights by the rear view mirror need some modding with a dremmel to get them in but well worth the effort. Will try and get a pic when it does a bit darker....... :D

keving21 16th February 2014 18:13

gave it a wash and applied my owners club sticker. luv this car

trimani 16th February 2014 18:26

Today I spent about 1 HR removing a paint scrape on my rear bumper that someone kindly left whilst wifey went to supermarket.

Annoyingly had I gone with her we could have parked in the disabled bay and it probably wouldn't have happened.

rover_ed 16th February 2014 19:22

(Yesterday I drove my brother from Gloucester to Catford south London to pick up a new car and back, 75 never skipped a beat, never used any oil or coolant and was very comfy 250 miles)

Today I washed her and topped up the clutch master cylinder just in case. What a b*5terd to get to !!!!

breakfastinsmethwick 16th February 2014 19:59

Gave her a service and fitted a Ronbox - set on setting 5 seems a tad smokey though.
Still got the inline thermostat to fit as a little nervous of cocking it up:shrug:

Are you sure it is actually set to 5? The arrow on my box doesn't actually indicate which setting it is on, I thought I had it on 2 but it was actually 7, trophy yellow mark corrected this for me :D and the inline stat mod is really quite simple, a few bolts cut a band, then squeeze the stat in (the most difficult part, just takes a little time amd some effort) and then a pair of jubilee clips :)

rathlindri 16th February 2014 21:26

Drove 140 mile round trip to visit my mum today. Didn't see a single R75 or ZT the whole day, which is unusual. As usual, the car ran faultlessly. Love it!

marinabrian 16th February 2014 21:29

Drove up to Amble with the family, had fish n chips, wandered around the market strolled along the beach and drove home again.

Lucky ***! what I wouldn't give for a double garage! :p:

Today I ordered some ATF for the ZT T just waiting for that and a break in the weather.

5kippy 16th February 2014 22:29

Sorted my brake lights..

My brake lights have been staying on intermitantly over the past few weeks, so I finally got a dry day to look into fixing this.

After reading many thread on here, I went for the switch change after carrying out all other checks.

What a nightmare, especially for a larger fella like myself, (didn't know my body could flex so many ways.)

Anyway, after finally getting the old switch out, i managed to damage the new one while installing it..:duh:
Several hours, cut and scrapes later, I finally sorted the problem, my origional switch was ok, but the bracket at the top of the brake pedal wasn't detecting on the switch. (hence lights staying on)
I resolved this by bending the bracket back slightly(towards the drivers seat) and then pushing the switch through the holder to meet the bracket.
This has given the brake lights a far better reaction on and off. I also sprayed some WD40 under the bellows/cover at the base of the pedal, this also seems to have freed the pedal???

A tip for anyone who may have to do this repair, it is very tight in the brake switch area, with very limited access. I found removing the lower kick plate which hold bonnet & boot release also removing X3 screws and lowering the diagnostics socket gave me a lot more room to get up in behind pedal assembely to install the switch.

Hope this helps someone..:}

perfect the Renault 5 tip off was perfect and google brought this how to up. I'll paste it here incase anyone like me was unsure Thanks again JordanRaven

First take of the engine cover 3 bolts this will give you access to the top hose which the stat fits into this hosr is held on by a stainless steel band which will have to be cut, unless your hose as been removed before and you may have a jubilee clip.

As you can see from Fig1 mine as the stainless steel band which i have started to cut.
http://i54.tinypic.com/250o5d3.jpg

I used the black disc which comes with the dremel tool Fig2
http://i52.tinypic.com/2m3guig.jpg

After first using this disc i decided it was a bit to large to actually see how the cut was going as you need to be carefull you do not cut into the hose so i changed it for a little pointed metal grinding tip which i did very slowly and kept checking the hose was ok it eventually ground enough for the band to be opend up with some small bull nosed pliers Fig3/4
http://i53.tinypic.com/2bv0g3.jpg

http://i55.tinypic.com/2vrsz7a.jpg

I was then able to remove the clip and place my funnel with a bit of garden hose attached to it the other end went into my container to catch any coolant Figs 5/6
http://i54.tinypic.com/14ce7hu.jpg

http://i55.tinypic.com/303hhm9.jpg

Now with the coolant collected which was very minimal the hose can be removed i tried to fit the stat with out removing the top hose altogether but found it very hard to push in the stat which is a very tight fit indeed, some have managed to do this but i could not Fig7/8
http://i54.tinypic.com/122oz89.jpg

http://i52.tinypic.com/25eyxxu.jpg

As you can see after i have silicon greased the stat and inside of the hose i inserted the stat only to find it was very hard to push it home so it was 10mm below the top of the hose so this is the reason i removed the top hose Fig9
http://i54.tinypic.com/2s6lrmr.jpg

With some great effort and a lot of hard pushing i managed to get the stat pushed in the hose 12-14mm the measurement is from the top of the copper bulb on the stat which points toward the engine.Fig10
http://i53.tinypic.com/wr01ns.jpg

In this photo i show the stat inserted and the measurement from the body of the stat which is 50mm Fig11
http://i54.tinypic.com/35dahph.jpg

Now the in-line top hose stat is fitted making sure it is central i can replace the hose fit the new stainless jubilee clips and refill with coolant which came out if you do not collect the coolant as i did refill with neat OAT (Organic Acid Technology) Fig12

Put $60 worth of fuel in the 75. The fuel gauge almost got to 3/4 full.

persuer 18th February 2014 10:11

Today i decided to fish the led bulb that had fell into my headlight, I had to remove headlight to do this and because I had the bumper off I changed the headlight washer pump at the same time.

I did think my new pump was a duff one as for about 10 mins and a couple of washer bottles full of water I realised my lights were not on so they would not work :duh:.

Well, my own 75 passed her MOT this morning. She needed new handbrake shoes, rear discs/pads, an ABS sensor, some number plate light fettling, rear suspension bushes and an OSR tyre. Cost me a few bob and did a lot of the work myself, but the car is a cracker and well worth the effort.

Collected car from garage after having new (well, remanufactured) turbo fitted.
Now I'm poorer, but should have cured the excessive oil use and smoky exhaust.

The Mighty Quinn 19th February 2014 17:45

That should at least give you some peace of mind David, even if it cost a lot. Out of interest, how much labour or how much time did the garage charge you for this job?
Would be useful to know for future reference.
Cheers, Karl.

Remanufactured turbo £400 + VAT
Full oil change for good measure
A spash of antifreeze
About 3 hours labour
Total £740 including VAT

The Mighty Quinn 19th February 2014 18:08

Ouch, that's a lot of money - but worth it, I'm sure.
Thanks for the info. No probs with mine yet, so keeping fingers crossed!

what I did with my Rover 75 today.

My 75 got a treat or two today, fitted LED front position light bulbs, very impressed with the result. Fitted carpet closure panels from local breakers for £10 the pair and the club stickers and tax disc holder are now on display. Many future jobs to carry out, just taking my time and hopefully getting it all done nicely. John H.:}

Not today, but a few days ago I changed an injector on my diesel ZT-T. I was shocked how easy it was to get out!

MangoMan 22nd February 2014 13:37

Today, I fitted a new Clutch Pedal Rubber as the original one, (I presume) was a bit worn.

Also I received something else with the Clutch Pedal Rubber, lets' see if it can be 'spotted'?

http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/...b.jpg~original

And as well as that i actually did a 'De-Mod', and people who know my car might just 'spot' that?

http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/...a.jpg~original

Also gave it a bit of a wipe after I took the Cover off and went and put in a 'Tenner'... as an excuse to give it a run...

And that's it - all back and tucked-up nicely thanks.... :D

NB. The only thing I MUST do sometime is put on the new Rear Chrome Bumper Trim I have sitting in the cupboard for nearly 3 years now!!! :( The one on the car has a slight crease in it just below the O/S Indicator - been there since I bought the car!
Just too chicken to take the Bumper off...... Sad!

Took The Flying Banana on the MGOC Snowdrop Run from Wimpole Hall to Moggerhanger Hall. Blue sky and sunshine all the way. We only got lost once on the 53 mile route through the countryside.

Dal74 22nd February 2014 18:35

A classic example of a paraprosdokian statement. Not a lot of people know that, including me, but I knew there was a word for it :)

ps If the child won't fit into the space provided, offer sweets or threaten the hamster.

keithybhoy 22nd February 2014 21:01

Today i removed the nsr waistline trim from the tourer for the new trim im picking up next weekend,using arctics guide and while i was there i rodded the sunroof drain. Now i know how to remove the trim iv ordered the 16mm hose conectors to solve any ingress i might have or get. So cheers arctic :} :}

munroman 22nd February 2014 21:23

Treated the seats with Gliptone, (great!), and refitted the real walnut dash properly as I hadn't got it right the first time.

Posted this last week, which were the rear pads, finished off today by changing front disks and pads also. Front pads didn't really need doing, but as disks changed so I did pads too.

Oh, and a calliper wind back tool makes bleeding the brakes so much easier.:}:}

billericaymgxpower 22nd February 2014 23:49

Fixed my starter motor solenoid with new plunger and contacts. If weather good on Sunday I'll tackle small dent repair to rear wing.

david75 23rd February 2014 16:44

FLYING BANANA 23rd February 2014 17:51

I took The Flying Banana to the Caldercotte Arms meet in Milton Keynes. Delivered 4x11 spokes with tyres to Petetourer. Collected a pair of Grid spokes with tyres for me and gave Shiner my spare Hairpin with tyre. Had food and came home.

Mr_Shed 23rd February 2014 19:00

Took mine into the panel beaters to fix the cracked bumper from the knob who hit and run in the shopping centre at Christmas.

As an aside, I hate the attitude here when the panel beater says he can't get parts after booking it in a month ago and when you indicate he should be sourcing the parts from the UK he screws his nose up and says he will check with Rover Australia!!! :duh:

It's often cheaper to get parts sent over from the U.K than getting it locally in Australia.
Sad state of affairs.

Sledge 24th February 2014 06:30

Hi Matt,

nice to hear from you. :}

I agree with your observation, the thing is he started carrying on about not being worth his time "stuffing arouind" with overseas parts and then having the wrong part delivered. I wonder if he really ever has purchased parts overseas or just a cbf attitude.

As I live in a regional town there are only two panel beaters, it may be worth my while next time (hopefully there won't be) to ask my insurance company to book me in somewhere else. ATM he's moaning about the fact he can't get a tail-light despite over 4 weeks notice from the insurance co.

I recon it's the cbf thing. Anyone wanting your business should be fine with installing parts you supply. They wont offer a warranty on them so they're on a good wicket really.

lasercutter 24th February 2014 16:38

had the auto transmission fluid changed (probably the first time it's been done in 12 years/86k miles)

Jordan Apex 24th February 2014 16:40

Refitted all the door cards with my JBL speakers in situ :D fitted chrome heater rings, and most of the black oak kit from Simon, dropped the heat gun nozzle on my thumb as things were going too smoothly

Sprinter 24th February 2014 17:15

Finally remembered and got to use my reset tool for the first time after I serviced it last week.

SWISSTONY 24th February 2014 17:17

Mr_Shed 25th February 2014 20:55

Checked wiring and plugs to find I can install cruise control :D

FLYING BANANA 25th February 2014 23:29

Left Flying Banana at home and took Baby Flying Banana out for a drive.

Darkxs 26th February 2014 13:15

As the ECM was out replaced the pollen filter (the old one was darker than black) Check the plenum drains, and all looking and clean. Fitted back the ECM (thanks Marinabrian :D) taking synergy off. Took it for a spin and OMG it's a new car ;) Fitted LED to the interior lights and looked at getting the wiring done for sun visors and dimming mirror.

Well, as I've been led to believe that's about 4000 miles before it's due... ;)

Mark2000cc 26th February 2014 15:59

Sorted a coolant leak out and dropped a couple of things deep into the engine bay! Just a standard day :-)

Lynyrd Skynner 26th February 2014 16:02

Dorset Bob 27th February 2014 12:11

I am waiting for Autoglass to fix a chip in the windscreen.
Booked in between 0900 - 1200. It is now 1310 and just started raining.

nomzamo999 27th February 2014 18:25

Today I treated my ZT-T to a wash & polymer seal.
Replaced a missing wheel arch inspection cover with one from a scrap 75 I drive past almost every day. Best £4 I've spent on the car yet :D

RogerHeinz57 27th February 2014 18:35

what I did with my Rover 75 today.

After a good wash leather and vac yesterday, the 75 got it's wheels cleaned. Well scrubbed in fact. The wheel acid equivalent available today was not up to the job! With in ground and burned on brake dust on all wheels, I applied the wheel cleaner and gently encouraged the filth to move with a brillo pad, yep a little gentle rub got all the stuff off. Saving me paying out for a refurb. The wheels were dried and polished up and look great! Not so embarrassed about my car now, also polished out some scratches. Getting sorted out slowly..:}

MangoMan 27th February 2014 18:54

It does give that classy look, and they are starting to become hard to buy

STUBIE 1st March 2014 14:45

First nice day of the year for car work so I've been busy on Barnaby

Bumper off and Jules gold fan fitted, took ages cause my portable solder iron could not generate barely enough heat to get the wires soldered but got there in the end so now low speed fan comes on with demist.

Replaced the shanon tube with silicon one from ebay, original was not that bad just starting to disintegrate at lowest point.

And finally fitted new Nightbreakers and LED side lights when bumper was off and lights easy to get to.

So off to LATES in a few weeks for the Cambelt, water pump & Stat change and perhaps autobox oil change.

Still to get Meteors refurbed and front bumper resprayed for National in 6 weeks.

Stubs

MangoMan 1st March 2014 15:07

Took it for a spin to visit my Daughter who lives all of 2 miles away after giving it a quick 'once-over'.

Then checked the water and oil, why I don't know, but it gives me something to do.....

And that was that. ;)

coab 1st March 2014 16:05

Changed my front panel bolts to stainless and had my dash painted in Mercedes hyacinth 2014 red. Will post pics up when photobucket is working!;)

Mikeal1 1st March 2014 16:06

coab 1st March 2014 16:09

Dal74 1st March 2014 16:16

Just finished fitting my electric rear blind (I was lucky the wires were already there, saying that I seem to have all the plugs ready and waiting behind the switch panel :D) and then some new MG badges front and rear, had to chamfer the bottom edges of the front one and but all good

Well if I have I have no idea where it is.
Firstly I took the interior light out and had a feel around. Then I took the drivers pillar cover off couldn't see or feel it anywhere.

They're at the very bottom of the car behind the furthest panel to the side of the car, you have to run the wires up yourself

They are tucked up in the footwells - the passenger one is usually easy to find, the drivers one can be a bit trickier ;)

Oh right. I might wait until a spanner meet then.

Thanks guys.

suzublu 1st March 2014 16:24

Wrong place :D drop the panels down under the dash, either side, wrapped around the large wiring harness in black tape, you'll find black/purple wires with a plug on the end, those are the illuminated visor wires. :D Driver's side is a little harder, as they're tucked right up behind the LSM :} too slow as usual:getmecoat::D

pab 1st March 2014 16:28

Washed, polished and waxed. Looks mint. :}

Alan123 1st March 2014 16:35
