misfiring KV6
 

Hi All,

Just fitted the metal thermostat unfortunately had to remove the rear injection rail to fit the connecting pipe. Car starts but misfires.Took the upper inlet chamber off to check that the three injectors were seated all look ok but still misfiring. Appreciate any help asap.

have you checked the coil and plug connections .you may have disturbed something. i recall after doing some work on my kv6 that i fitted the plug leads according to their length on the bank nearest to the rad. plug 1 left and plug 3 middle were wrong way round according to their respective lengths. this has been noticed many times and was a production issue so im told. i just swopped them over after scratching my head for hours and ... bingo !! all good. worth a mention to check yours .... ;)

I cannot believe that it is still leaking coolant into the v in spite of everything being put back extremely carefully. Where on earth could the coolant be leaking from?
Any ideas please,

Did you replace the paper inlet gaskets? Usually they leak into the cylinders but you seem to have looked at everything else.

I am not sure how to add a photo to a post. However I don't think that will help there is fresh coolant in the V. This is not looking good I have nearly had enough of this car which is a shame because it has only done about 63000miles and I bought it new and undersealed it so the body is rust free, but it is beginning to get on my nerves.

I can't understand where it is leaking from. I put on new manifold gaskets and which were properly torqued up. The thermostat was carefully fitted so I cannot imagine it is leaking from there. The only other thing I can think of is a cracked manifold but
would have thought that most unlikely.

when you fitted the thermostat are you sure it is bottomed out into the block ? they are difficult to seat without quite a bit of twisting right to left and at the same time giving downward pressure. i used red rubber grease to help with this. the other thing that springs to mind is have you nipped an oring on the edges of the housing of the stat recesses for the rings that are quite sharp and need a needle file on them to take the sharpness off. you need to find the origin of the leak first before you can move forward with the misfire. this is your first job. with a v full of coolant it should come to light pretty quickly as to the cause. sometimes the inlet manifold can be warped if not torqued up in the correct sequence but i doubt that. you must find the leak.... :shrug:

hi martin. did you use jubilee clips on the rubber pipe connections to the stat itself. the spring clip type ones are useless on these castings and are a no no.
