Been using one as my daily and for work for the last 9 years Ronnie. It's proved to be totally reliable, fantastic versatile car.And it's got a K series engine which returns excellent mpg;)

Mechanically probably more reliable than the 75 with Honda under pining's , downside is the body not as heavy and not as as well rust protected as the 75
Otherwise drives and handles well

My other car is 45 GTI (MG ZS), had her 19 years next month
Absolutely love her
But then I love ZTT too, actually looking at another car now but would mean selling ZTT, not sure I can do it

I've had several 45s, and all have proved reliable and better than the equivalent major manufacturers offerings. Latest is a 30,000 miles (limited Spirit edition) owned from new by the proverbial lady owner until last year when at the ripe old age of 100 she clipped the gatepost and decided to give up driving. The car is otherwise mint, and I don't know whether to have the bumper repaired or leave. It is only scratched, not dented or cracked. It has the stepspeed auto box which I am not keen on, BUT it also has the F1 6 speed tiptronic, which can show many a hot hatch a clean pair of heels! Great little cars.

Unfortunately good 45's are getting few and far between now with the age of them , The old iron worm has certainly ravaged them more than the 75 but still see them appear from time to time , I certainly won't be parting with mine :D

I’ve had 2 Rover 45’s before I got my 75. The first was a diesel hatchback impression 3 model which the insurance company rated as a sports model as it had a rear spoiler - this was bought in haste as I needed a replacement vehicle NOW! It turned out to be a complete rust bucket!

My second was an 04 reg diesel connie Saloon, which was a very nice car and it went round corners like it was on rails! It had a spring loaded boot release that opened the boot for you - something I was surprised that the 75 never got.

This was replaced by my current 75 connie SE saloon one of the first things I noticed apart from the 75’s luxury was that no way would it go round corners like the 45 saloon!

I've always fancied a 45 but sadly never had the opportunity.

I also think the facelift 45 is easily the best of all the facelift models - I think it's quite a pretty thing at the front end at least.

My Dad had a P Reg 400 saloon. He actually didn't want it, he didn't realise they did saloons as well as hatch backs, but it was back in the days of the Trade-it paper so no photos. We got there and he didn't want it, but felt silly admitting he didn't realise it was a saloon, so made an offer he thought the bloke would refuse, and ended up getting it for a great price! From memory it was on for around £900 and he offered £600. I always like it, smooth and comfortable, and thought it looked good, and a damn sight better than the Escort it was replacing. It was a 1.6 engine in it, I only drove it once, but it was nice to drive, a lot better than the 1.5 diesel AX I had at the time! Sadly the reg shows its not had an mot since 2009.
