Front Abs sensor... how tight?

Well it was a struggle to get the old one out.
Tried drilling and tapping in a screw to lever it out, but ended up bending the screw. Was worried the head of the screw would snap off, so resorted to drilling the sensor out, halfway.
Then tried the screw again, and eventually it came out.

Now, the question.....how tight should a new abs sensor be when going in?

I can only get mine in 1/4”, before it gets silly tight.
I’ll try a bit of sandpaper around a drill bit tomorrow, to make sure the hole in the hub is totally clean.
(Darkness beat me tonight).

Failing that, would it be ok to file off a bit of the body of the sensor?

There is a really good thread here about ABS sensor replacement. https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...=252858&page=4

I posted some pictures of mine (post 37) showing how I had to use a file to clean out the hole sufficiently to get the sensor in. They should push in without being too tight to allow it to seat properly. You may have to clean up the area around the screw hole as well. This builds up with rust and stops to the sensor from seating properly. Good luck!

Hi Sean.
Be extra careful when cleaning out the front aperture for the front sensor, leave no debris behind, use an hoover with a thin tube if you can, this will make sure no debris is left behind.

With regards to the sensor you can shave the little side tags off with a Stanley knife to help it fit into the hole, add a little smear of silicone or grease onto the sensor about halfway from the top, not on the tip and it should slide in. ;)

Use genuine Rover ones- the after market ones are a bit too fat and need trimming down.

Thanks Pete, but unfortunately too late.😞.
I had already bought some eBay jobbies.

Front Abs sensor... how tight?

Ok, so unfortunately I went ahead this morning, before receiving some of the replies above.🤭
This is the screw that was bent trying to take the sensor out, and also the one that took it out, after drilling the top half of the sensor out.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7b8d972267.jpg
Before full assembly, 1st i connected the abs sensor to the car, to check it cleared the “static test”, ie, on turning the key to ign 1, the abs light should come on, and then go off a few seconds later.
Result was positive..😀

I cleaned the hole out with some rough sandpaper...about 10 times, hoovering out the dust as I went along, each time.

I also filed around the body of the sensor, until I could fit it in, snuggly, but not overly tight.
Cleaned up the face of the hub, where the sensor mounts to, with a wire brush.

Applied some coppaslip to the body of the sensor, (but possibly more than recommended by Arctic, in previous post).🤭

Then refitted the sensor, and screwed in the fixing screw with an 8mm socket.

Re-clippped the cable, into whatever holders I still had...

And finally fitted the rubber grommet thou the wheel arch lining.
Photo taken before refit of the grommet.

Wheel back on, and went for a quick spin.
Result.🙏
Abs light comes on, then goes off, and as I move away, the abs light remains off.
Speedo now back working again.😀
Thanks for the replies chaps.
