Rear subframe failsafe washers - any alternatives?
 

The rear subframe failsafe washer KHV100020* is no longer available anywhere. Has anyone found a suitable alternative to it?

Mine simply get removed, cleaned up, examined for faults and assuming ok, they get painted up and back on they go. If any deformation of damage present, a trip to the breakers yard for a handful to then do the same with.

I'm not sure mine are good enough to go back on - I won't know until I take them off so I'd rather have an alternative ready in case they're too rusted.

This is part of a complete rear end refurb - all new bits - I've got most of it already.

If in doubt, I would simply ask a trader on here to send you some or a trip to the yards to get some to sort out prior to commencing with the fitting ....

I've put a wanted ad in classifieds (for new ones) but no traders have answered so far.

The breakers will have to be a last resort.

I'd agree, if no new ones are available then take in old washer along to an engineering firm and ask them to cut a few new ones from some thick sheet steel, alloy or stainless :}

Would the BMW ones for the E46 be similar?

The part number is 33 30 6 779 486 - if you google it it shows a picture, these should be available from your local BMW dealer for not that much.

They don't look the same shape. You could try ringing AE Wilcox as they had some hard to get parts a couple of years back. I had a new subframe, rear hanging mounts, bolts and all sorts of goodies from them. Maybe all gone now, but worth an ask as none of it was showing on the MG parts finder.

Exactly. I'm doing a full suspension renewal myself at the moment and thought that the only part I couldn't get was the rear subframe failsafe washers (even though I was sure I had got some from somewhere a few years ago). Low and behold, I found them earlier this week - and they've been left with my mechanic for fitting. These are fairly rudimentary circular washers - with a flat profile across approx. 82mm diameter (not sure that the curved edge serves much of a purpose). I should think you could get any thick gauge steel plate cut to do precisely the same job, so don't worry too much about not finding the original parts.
