brake pipes
 

hi to all
I am going to change the rear and front brake pipes next week and my question is the rear pipes go to the front of the car to a union and I noticed that one of the pipe connectors had a bigger thread than the other
can any one tell me what is the purpose of this union as there is a small hole on the big thread connector and a larger hole on the smaller connector

Not sure tbh, id guess it was done so you cant confuse the two pipes?

Hmm, sounds odd to me??

The very early cars had one M12 flare nut and one M10 so you couldn't mix up the connections, with the unions just forward of the bracing fitted to the front subframe.

Later cars had M10 connections on both pipes, the connections were staggered and were on the aft side of the subframe brace.

In any event, open the bleed nipples of both calipers to make sure they're not seized before breaking into the system, and open the NSR bleed nipple first, then press the brake pedal to the floor, and block it against the seat with a piece of wood to prevent the pedal returning.

This has the effect of preventing fluid loss when disconnecting the pipework ;)

I should have mentioned that I am also replacing the front pipes as well I don't know yet if I will be replacing the pipes that go from the connector
to the abs unit depends on their condition
