How do you feel about fully retiring?

I was always a little concerned as did I have a number of friends who were really looking forward to retirement and were all dead with a few years . and wondered why ?

But the covid furloughing put that worry to bed as I had some months off and really enjoyed it .. ;)

Maybe fairly pitiful redunancy package might pay off the energy/fuel bills for a year or so :D

Lots of people seem to die soon after retirement, no idea why, there is probably a term for it.

You need a plan for what you are going to do and start it long before you actually retire. That way you do not sit down when you retire and say to yourself "I had better start that retirement plan"

By then it really is too late and you suffer the consequencies.

I have had many ex colleagues pass away soon after retirement. I think the workplace pension schemes call it "a result"

The term is ‘lack of purpose’ you have to keep as busy as you did at work, routine routine routine.

I thought retirement meant having time to relax :D
We seem busy. Today went out for covid tests, put saloon on charge, made up a "box" to mount two external sockets on, weather proofed it and fitted the sockets, cooked dinner, mowed some of the garden.

Tomorrow, if the weather is good I will continue dismantling a pump housing. Put saloon back on charge, cook dinner mow more of the garden and no doubt get sidetracked and do something else.

we are both feeling under the weather as we both have positive covid test results.

retirement, how did we find time to go to work?

Apparently the reason I was told is that a lot of people in the later years of there working life are often in a managerial role or are taking it a lot easier. As soon as they retire the wife gives them the list of all the jobs they can now do as well as the extra round of two of Golf a week and generally becoming a lot more active, the poor old ticker is not up to it.

A good friend of mine took early retirement a couple of years ago and was looking forward to it, he is now regretting giving up full time work and is looking at projects he can now get on with. My wife said only last week we have seen more of him since he retired than we did in the last 20 years we have known him.

Covid has made a lot of people realise there is more to life than the 9 to 5 and all that comes with it. I know for one next year I am planning on cutting my hours to 3 days a week when I can and as soon as my mortgage is finished I will be looking at the finances and seeing what I can afford to do,

We all spend a long time dead so if you can afford to give up work do it, no point in being rich and dead.
