Have the Afgan's been thrown to the wolves?
Taliban advancing and there is no one to, to, well to what?

I don't think so, but then again I never felt that we should have given the yanks anything other than logistic support in the battle with their troubles. And if that is all we did, it would be a damned sight more than they ever did for us with the decades of slaughter of innocent people on our streets which we had to suffer.

In hundreds of years of revolutions and continuing deep unrest in the region the Taliban have succeeded in maintaining their grip on a medieval State. In my admittedly unqualified view, and despite the horror of the cost in not only our own military forces but others as well, UK should not have entered into such a vain invasion.
I wonder just what US have on UK that persuaded our Gov to take part in such an absolutely stupid war. It must be something rather large. Could it possibly have been the sycophantic relationship between national leaders of the time? |
All those powerful people who "knew" talked of education, womens rights and other nice fuzzy things. They had the gall to think that they should remake a country according to their liking. Some, the Americans thought they would get rich, none of these people gave a thought to the likely cost in lives etc. Some of us voted for these same people and now they are rich and famous and and they "know" they were right. The Afgans only wanted to be left to continue to kill each other as they have done since forever, they like killing each other and anyone else who is available, they are good at it. They will hope to draw us back so they can kill more of us. Chris S.

Rory Stewart is a good commentator on this country with his experience of the region. He’s worth listening to IMO.

Whether you believe we should have or not, we’ve given them 20 years, at some cost, to help them build a modern government, expel corruption and to build their own security services to manage internal tensions. For that we were not thanked. Many brave souls lost their lives and many have been injured. Better out than in.

Agree with what you say, but, those grandiose and worthy ambitions/costs/lives of both the indigenous people and the invading armies have ultimately failed and there is now no trace of any authority but the permanent Taliban. When will the West realise that ".....ne'er the twain shall meet".

You are there because mainly of one individual. Tony Blair.
He made the bed and you now have to lie in it. Maybe someone should take him to task.? Talking about being slow to learn. They beat the carp out of you in the 19th century, and you went back for more. Some dogs are better left sleeping. |
