What's it worth
 

My Son has been asked to sell his Mother in laws ZTT 180, it has only done 42k and passed an MOT yesterday with no problem.

He asked me to what I think its worth before he advertised it. My guess with that mileage something about £3500 but am I being optimistic?

Each person can only give their personal opinion. I would pay that sort of price providing the car was in really good condition and had a good service history. Condition will be key.

My own ZT-T 180+ auto has 41k and is currently insured for £4000. Mine is standard, tidy, not full of dents, belts done, running on matching Michelins, not rusty underneath etc. I might look to get the insurance value increased slightly at renewal.
Condition, spec and history is important. If it's fairly nice, it sounds about ballpark right but there's not much to go on.
ZTs and ZT tourers are rarer than Rover equivalents. According to my MG Rover production data, there were 469 ZT-T 180+ made.
Were I advertising such a vehicle for sale, my personal preference would be to use Car and Classic and Fleabay and avoid FB. And head off lots of people asking about when the belts were done (actually a £450 job by professionals) by putting the date and mileage done in any advert. Lots of details and information plus good photots will help. Good luck. :}

A car like that would probably do very well at a classic car auction. When I surveyed the market last year Anglia Car Auctions (Kings Lynn) and SWVA (Poole) had very reasonable fees.

I would add that colour has an impact on value - some are more desirable than others and can make a few hundred pounds difference.

I'd pay £3,500 for a really tidy example with low mileage, for sure.

My ZTT 180+ with 102k on the clock cost me £2,800 earlier this year. But it's 1 of 2 in Moonshine, which adds a bit onto the cost as Coolguy has said.

I would suggest the last cambelt change would have a bearing on the price, along with any optional extras that it may or may not have.

Apparently the belt was done at 29k but that was 10 years ago. Probably due on age.

Any recommendations on who could do the belt for £500. Two garages he has asked have both quoted a lot more than that. He lives near Banbury.

There are three belts Steve and the special 190 camshaft locking adaptors have to be used. Until now these have been unobtainable but DMGRS are now offering them for sale. The garage will also need the service tools to go with the adaptors. If they don't have them, DMGRS has a set for hire at just £50. :}

It's a big job. Try contacting club member Gavin who offers a mobile service and is based in Leamington Spa I think.

Marshall Performance Motors in Burton on Trent (Trader on here 07871 565094) have just done my lad's ZS 180 belts for £450. Chris is a good chap. I'll go back there in future.

And mine were done for £450 by Dave Allkins at MG Rover Mobile Mechanics at their place in Derby. Dave and Kayleigh are great too and I would happily go back to them too. Dave is mobile too but mobile is very popular so be prepared to wait for months I think.
