Trading in a 75?
 

If, a big if, I was tempted to trade in my 75 (immaculate low miles, 56k 1999 2.0 auto V6 with full MOT with no advisories) on a used car to a dealer, would I get a reasonable offer?:shrug:

I would say 'reasonable' is very much a point of view.

I doubt your reasonable will be close to a dealers reasonable I'm afraid. I would suggest the dealer will look at it as the cost of making a sale of one of their vehicles, as it will likely send your 75 straight to auction with minimal expectation of few £100 in return after costs.

They are worth a lot to us, and very little to the trade I am afraid. Sell it privately, if you must, preferably on this forum.

Sadly unlikely, I have friends in the car trade and they consider anything over 10 years old a ''banger''. One will take old cars in and even sell them but it is usually small engine cars for learner drivers. Most as has been said will just pass them on to auction and sometimes will just take them to scrap if the return from the auction is going to be less than a couple of hundred.

A couple of years ago one of them was showing me a very clean low mileage (26k) Hyundai Stellar that he had taken in part exchange. The old boy wanted to swap it in as he needed an Automatic and his old car was manual, my friend gave him £600 and was amazed when he advertised it to be inundated with offers for far more than he thought it was worth, he nearly doubled his money and even to this day is amazed at what ''some idiots will pay for cr4p''

I would suggest selling it privately on one of the internet websites, big audiance and you are more likely to get closer to what it is worth.

I would suggest putting it in anglia car auctions classic sale as they do seem to fetch a much better price than you would get from trading it in as as a dealer trade in you might at best get offered £500 depending on how much profit they have in the car you are buying but at the moment good second hand cars are at a premium price due to the shortage of new ones at the moment

You would be better selling the car privately. Any garage would only offer you around the 300 to 400 pound mark if you were lucky. No where near what the car is worth you should be able to get twice that selling privately.

The car looks superb if you are selling it then you could put it for sale on here first perhaps :}

She looks to be a very tidy example. As suggested, I would put an add on here first as it won't cost you anything more than your subs.

The fact it is a 2.0 6 cylinder may make it a little harder to sell in my opinion but I'm sure you will find a buyer. :}
