603,000 kilometres and still going like new.
Service your car properly and it will reward you!
A friend has just serviced a Rover 75 that has travelled 603,000 kilometres (approx. 375,000 miles). He states it is in good condition. He acquired a lot of knowledge on our cars during a six weeks induction at the MG Rover factory prior to the 75s launch in Australia. He maintains that this car has only had routine maintenance – including the transmission fluid changed four times. He has seen many 75 / ZTs whilst working in a former MG Rover dealership. Compare that to a 75 just transported to him. The car has been in a workshop since Christmas, all solenoids et al changed at a cost of $7,000.00. Initial glance appears that the wrong transmission fluid has been used.. My friend claims that he has not had a problem with the Jatco transmission when it is serviced at recommended intervals with the recommended fluid. Interesting that whilst he was at MG Rover, Longbridge, test engines were running for hours. The engineers instructed him to use only Mobil 1 0W-40 engine oil. The Owners Handbook was not updated to cover this verbal “update” given to the visiting Aussie – some three to four years after the handbook was printed. "Mobil I 0W-40 is a 100% advanced fully synthetic engine oil with proprietary Multi-Layer Anti-Wear Technology …..delivers the viscosity required by many European car builders". |
That is fairly impressive Bruce, the highest mileage 75 I've seen is, or probably by now, was a taxi from Durham city.
It had five clutches, a water pump and two alternators in it's career according to it's owner who bought it new in November 2004. Here is the picture I took of the speedometer......... http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps644c1019.jpg That is 925099 KMs  It goes to show that it is possible to look after these cars and have them reward you for it. So, at that rate, I should get over a hundred years out of my car then! :) I don't think that I will last that long though! :D Well done folks. Keep on Rovering.
