Plastic carpet finishers
 

Has anybody created an alternative to these plastic carpet trims that slide on at each door, they constantly become detached and are a PITA. I was thinking something which screws down like the metal kick plates would be ideal. The carpet trims on my 800 don't use this 'slide on' affair used on the 75. Am I the only one who gets frustrated with these bits of trim?

If the plastic securing clips could be replaced with a version with a thread in the centre then I could drill holes in the finisher and screw it down onto the new plastic clips

I agree PITA to slide on, I stuck the clips into the slides and tapped the trim on. Because most adhesives won't stick to the polyurethane type plastic I used a silicone adhesive.

The later models don't have the same problem because the carpet kicker is under the door rubbers, so i supposed you could always change out the door rubbers and kick plates.

Fix them on with the proper fir tree clips (not eBay stuff) and they will stay on!

I've had this problem too. On closer inspection I found that an inaccurately cut carpet around the mounting hole was preventing the clips from engaging fully.

Another cause is re-using the fir tree clip. They're designed to deform when fitted so should really be replaced with new for reliability. As the genuine part can be very expensive I used the equivalent from Byronix Automotive Fasteners (coloured yellow) which is identical apart from being slightly longer which actually helps them to be more secure.

I think that persevering is probably better than spoiling the trim with exposed screw heads. :}

Yep, proper clips, locate the clip in the trim, position the trim and whack where the clips are with a rubber mallet!

The yellow clips are not identical, they are made from polypropylene not acetal resin like the originals.

I had the same issue on my 190. My daughter would drag her foot getting in or out popping the trim strip off. With nagging I was able to get her to pay attention to the trim and it stayed put.
I thought it was in the past but the safety tester managed to knock off the driver's trim when testing my new ZT-t.:duh:
Luckily I have extra proper clips on hand.:}
