There are no food shortages .... just far too many criminals / freeloaders eating it. :getmecoat:

Just for the sake of interest in police activity, here’s a useful tool for most areas. Note the number of entries for ‘no suspect identified’ in your area.

I cannot complain about policing around here, there are generally few problems and few thefts/ break-ins. There is almost always two or three specials wondering around the main street and we often see them in this street.

A few weeks ago, an elderly woman was killed by a reversing lorry in the main street. The street was rapidly closed off and there was a massive police presence within minutes on the scene.

A few years ago I spotted a group of maybe 40+ teenagers seeming to be fighting in the street I live on, reported it and they had an elderly special run over from the main st.. He was obviously knackered before he got here and the kids were long gone.

Lots of catalytic converters being stolen around here, It's rampant. they're targeting Toyota Prius models more than any other car model, they're so brazen now they don't even bother to steal them under cover of darkness any longer because they know PC Plod isn't going to show up.
They just stop in the road jack up the car and have taken the cat off in 5 minutes.

Sorry about this revival, relevant developments from across the pond.
Reported in New York Times by Tim Arango:

The Governor of California, Mr. Gavin Newson, is announcing a moratorium on the death penalty in Los Angeles and giving a temporary reprieve to 737 convicted murderers currently on death row there. That's rather a lot for one city. It's also rather a lot of relieved guests.

I wonder what the sentences will be commuted to. They are not noted for their clemency. Neither Old Smokey, nor Sodium thiopenal and potassium chloride seem to be much of a deterrent. Whereas Whole of Life in a brutal US Nevada desert jail would make instant death something of a relief.
