Very annoying dashboard buzz
Well chaps, the idea of 'basing the Rover 75 on a Rolls-Royce' is all very well but because it's so quiet in the cabin, the noises are more obvious!
I've searched the forums for 'rattles' and 'buzz' (BCU, air vent tubes etc etc) but I've not found anyone as yet with the same buzz as mine! After removing the instrument pod and wood dash section in front of the driver and the panels below the steering column, I'm still unable to locate the damn buzz. I've stuck my head up in the space above the foot pedals and the sound 'seems' to be above the steering column but I've tried putting my fingers on everything under there and it still buzzes! AAAARGH! It occurs at around 1800-2000rpm which has been mentioned in the forums but this is just obviously at the point where the engine vibration has hit the sweet spot to set off the buzz. I'm afraid this will be a hit and run thread; off to bed now but will check on replies (if any :D) 2moro night. Good night gentlemen and good luck. |
ive got a buzz after the ignition is switched off for a second or two,cheers-dan

I've got a couple at the moment.
One in the front roof light and one behind the right centre vent. Push, squeeze, prod, poke and pull anything you like they won't go away! I did have one behind the dash in about the same place as you describe exforces, and after loads of searching I found it by accident one day UNDER THE BONNET:o It was the FBH exhaust knocking against a post on the wing.. Did the bolt up and hey presto, gone and never returned :D It's amazing how the sound can travel. Regards. Steve. |
1800-2000 RPM buzz on a Tourer is usually the roof spars behind the headlining.
Pack them with silicone sealer. Tap the roof with your fist. Usually front 1/3 area will reproduce the noise. Many Exhaust systems have been falsely blamed on Tourers. Some have even been replaced only for noise to return! Another "Buzz" appearing to come from above steering column is the windscreen trim on the OUTSIDE ! Usually happens above 40 MPH. Buzz 2-3 seconds after ignition switch off is all the motorised flaps in the heater matrix parking themselves to their default position. (stepper motors) Quite normal and all 75's should do this! |
I've got a buzzing coming from the passenger side dash and the drivers door panel.
When the breadknife was driving the other day, I managed to pinpoint the buzzing. The noise disappeared when I pressed down on the dash near to the demist vent. As soon as I released pressure, the noise reappeared. Weird. I've not really investigated the door panel, other than noticing it seems to be coming away from the door slightly, at the top, lock plunger thingy. |

Quite normal and all 75's should do this! PHEW That's reassuring, I've been wondering what that weird noise was every time every time the key was turned. |

You need to replace the clip by the lock pin with a Fir Tree type clip, loads on ebay search for "Rover 75 door clip" and make sure it is a Fir Tree type!! Often these get replaced with a normal clip which cause the door card to pull away form the frame. Since I replaced mine the door cards are tight and rattle free. Ed;) |
Good place to check is the rear view mirror, my buzz sound seemed it was from behind my head but nope in front of me. the mirror needed squeezing together a bit. Job done!"

Hey Frazer. I got a bag of those red ones and they're ok for some things but I find on the door cards, sill and some other places they're just a bit too small.
