Has any one had issues with metal master cylinder?
 
Just wondered if anyone has had issues with the metal master cylinder?
I bought one off eBay and after having had loads of trouble bleeding it and unable to get a full pedal, I've noticed it seems to be weeping fluid slightly.
Read a comment on one of the Facebook pages recently with someone having issues bleeding a metal master too.

Not that I follow this, having automatics, but I seem to remember Tazu being mentioned often.
That might be what you are looking for.
Why they should leak seams strange to me.
Maybe get better rubber and hone the surface of the cylinder.
It can't be rocket science, unless the material is inferior, I would guess?:shrug:

Here's a pic of the brass sleeve within the metal cylinder. It was my opinion that the tiny seals between the alloy and the brass leaked when under clutch operating pressure and then dribbled out via the piston operating rod, where the pedal is joined. Just my opinion.:shrug:

If the picture is of a pressure piston, it looks completely wrongly designed.
Firstly an o-ring in that position is not the best choice, and secondly, if chosen, it is of far too small cord diameter.
But it would be far better to machine the front of the piston to take a conventional brake cylinder seal, with a skirt that is pressed against the sidewall when applied.
It would be a small thing to get this to work!
It looks like decent material and the machining is also good, just wrong.

The pic is of the sleeve that the piston slides in. I don't know why a sleeve was needed in an alloy body anyway. Perhaps the castings or the ally weren't up to the job?

I have had a Metal master for several years now, I have never had a problem with it . The only thing which is slightly annoying is the engine compartment "noise" that is transmitted along the copper pipe, other than that not been a problem.

Just to update on this. It was the new metal master cylinder at fault.
Just could not get a full pedal. Fitted a new plastic master cylinder from dmgrs with original plastic pipe, and it bled up no problems and has been fine since.

Interestingly if I disconnected the master and slave, the pedal was firm, but it must have been drawing in air from somewhere. The metal master seemed to be weeping fluid - hard to tell where from but I think it was between the cylinder and reservoir.
